A sea change has happened in the UK.

Salman The Butcher now owns a EPL club. For the longest time, the UK disapproved of Saudi methods. The repression of women, the genocide war gone wrong in Yemen and the dismembering alive of journalists - not to mention the exporting of fierce Islamic dogma and the indirect sponsorship of 9/11.

It was a noble stance before Brexit started to bite. Now the outlook has changed, the UK wants more business with the Saudis, as a demonstration of good faith they are allowing Salman The Butcher to take over Newcastle United Football Club. This is different from how Chelsea is run, Vladimir Putin does not own the club. To make the deal more palatable they are saying a Saudi consortium has taken the club over - it doesn't wash as Salman The Butcher is the Governor of the Saudi Wealth Fund.

So what has changed, will Boris Johnson present his ass to Salman The Butcher?

I never understood why it was so important to leave the Single Market? That's like Canada boycotting trade with the USA for a flimsy free trade deal with the PRC.

London understood what would happen and voted remain. While part of the EU, London became exceptionally wealthy. It wasn't their fault that the British Government was too incompetent to disperse the largesse outside the SouthEast. The North is thriving, how long it will last is unclear.

I am not British and don't follow it very closely so I am purely talking out of my ass here.
I think it was more a problem with letting immigrants in from the EU with no controls and the money sent to the EU than trade itself.
All those Polish plumbers and the like.

OTOH as Jimmy Carr said. If you lose your job to someone who can't speak English, maybe you're shit.

You're not British...but...but...you bought a fine shrubbery, I like the laurels particularly.

The sad part is Britain is in the midst of another creative golden age. It could have achieved what President Johnson wanted, a great society. Instead it gets taken in by a speculator (Farage) and a pucurone (Cameron), the pickle they are in will only get worse.

No wonder that only 26% approve of the BOJO Conservative Governments handling of the Economy / Pandemic etc. 56% Disapprove, while 22% are not sure.
Fact is that this can only get worse with huge lineup at Petrol Stations, then the Gasoline has been running out and the grocery shelves are getting more and more empty by the day.
BOJO will go down as the worse PM in the UK modern times history.

Hard to believe when you consider what came before him, he looked after his Eton buddies. I hope this doesn't get taken down again.

The only thing right about Cameron was that he opposed Brexit. But he took it too lightly thinking that it would jack up his popularity when he decided to call on the Brexit referendum.
It turned out to be the biggest disaster, especially when this referendum was not a NEED but a WANT by Cameron. It has really screwed up the UK!!

Their energy prices are through the roof and having real impact on the domestic production and the government is still determined to implement the higher taxes and the green agenda in the middle of the economic and social crisis. In other words, doing the opposite what's needed in the post Brexit environment.

Considering how costly it was, do the leave folks really want to start "The Troubles" again?

The Leon Trotsky of the Leave Movement, also the Brutus against Teresa May, is not having a good day.

It won't be the Troubles again. The Good Friday Agreement provides for a referendum on stay or leave that all affected parties agreed to. I think it is similar to what we had/have in Quebec.

It wasn't the market part they (the majority of Brits., slim though the majority was) wanted to leave EU for things like immigration policy. I know a lady from England (WWII bride) who is in close touch with relatives there. Some of them voted Brexit Yes because they didn't like Russians moving into the neighborhood. A lot of Brits are getting a lesson in looking beyond the end of their noses now. As for the foootball team - it's a bunch of guys (women too, but not nearly the fan base) in skivies kicking a ball around. It's a great sport to do, as are nearly all, but a crashing bore to watch (ditto). Nothing about it except equipment sales (take Tom Hanks' Wilson, for example) should be attracting any money...

Yes I managed to buy some shrubbery from Roger the Shrubber. One that looks nice and not to expensive.
Sadly Roger quit the business. Too many people saying Ni to old ladies, it made him sad.

Grew up in Britain. It's a gut thing. The British hate everyone else. And have an entrenched superiority culture. They hate the French, Germans, Italians, Russians and don't get them started on non whites.

Brits were taught from birth that they were better than the other countries and that they had the world's biggest empire and that they let it slip away.

Brexit is "Make Britain Great Again" by turning on the rest of the world and "being better because the others don't hold you back any more. Because you're better alone. Because you're British.

Not everyone thinks that of course. The younger, more urban and more educated people have more brains. But it's an aging electorate and many of the older folks have a grade 10 education and read the tabloids, which are Britain's print equivalent of Fox News.

Of course, it's nonsense. But the pro Brexit people think that it will herald a golden age of world supremacy. And yes, the fact that Dariusz the Polish plumber had to leave and go back to Poland has them dancing with joy because "bluddy furriners in oor country! Makes ya sick, dunnit?!"

Brexit could bring about the reign of Charles III, sooner rather than later.

The Queen is dependent on Modena balsamic vinegar to maintain her health. It's very expensive and also an excellent anti-oxidant. The Queen has her own private cask in Modena, the molasses like vinegar cannot be produced in England's temperate climate. What will happen if she runs out?

I went to a winery close to San Giminane where the main product they produced was balsamic vinegar. Much more expensive than wine, but truly sensational.
