Am in the middle of the second episode, but man this is really entertaining. Lots of humor, suspense, and emotional drama. Hope the whole series is as good as the beginning. Anyone else watching it?

Its good.
(The end isn't quite as strong as I would like, but that is probably because they wanted to leave room for Season 2.)

word on the street is that the subs or dubbing may not be what is in the actual script due to poor translation.

just heard it from a coworker. apparently the story is different then what has been translated.

I thoroughly enjoyed it though.

Well, as long as the main idea is conveyed, I don't think it affects my enjoyment since I don't know any Korean.

I just listened to it with English audio, and it completely unwatchable, the voice actors are HORRENDOUS, I mean they're not usually good, but it's complete garbage. Am watching in original Korean with English captions.

I can't stand watching movies with dubbed in English audio. Much prefer subtitles, even though they divert my attention from the video. That said, if I happen to have some knowledge of both languages involved, I'm sometimes amazed by how poor the subtitle translations are.

It’s fine, reminds me Japanese manga and movie “ As the Gods will”. However, Koreans are way better in cinematography + acting is great too.

Apparently, choosing the English Subtitles instead of English [CC] will be more accurate to the script

I loved the body-painted leopard woman used as a furniture prop, holy crap those were sensational boobs.

If anyone can get an image of that - and who is she? - I would love to see it.

As far as the series, well it was mildly entertaining, but totally ridiculous of course.

They should of had a westerner write the lines for the fat boorish white guys, it came across as unrealistic.

As far as the tempered/un-tempered glass bridge goes, the first guy should have made one attempt, then, if alive, he should of just stood there, making the others each take a turn, otherwise it is just a death sentence.

Sorry, if I felt the glass breaking under me I would grab the frame of the structure.

Subtitle translation is incredibly hard because people read far slower than people on screen speak.
You are always limited by what is a reasonable time to keep the lines on the screen so you have to make translation choices with that in mind.
This often means sacrificing a direct translation to get the idea across in a shorter line.

Bit suprised to see some Korean Milf chesticles for a few seconds considering how... virginal Kdramas come across at times.

Unrealistic and for that matter strange accents coming from white people? It wouldn't be a Kdrama if they didn't do that.

As for the bridge, there was a timer and if you pause, you get pushed by the people behind you. I suppose if everyone worked together they could have done something more fairly but people were gonna die anyway.

Just finished the series, and was not disappointed. Even the ending, which many people disliked was pretty good. I liked the twist at the end.

Great acting, great message about selfishness, how society has changed, survival, and doing what it takes to survive, even at the expense of others. And then living with yourself afterwards.

This was showcased brilliantly in the marbles episode, in which each set of characters responded differently to the same circumstance. Man, what an emotional episode!

I think the "Red light, green light" game was my favorite. It was the "What the fuck?!" moment for me. So creepy, the set could have been a real one in North Korea.

What you are saying makes sense but I don't see it as being the problem
Plenty of time in Bollywood and KDramas they give subtitles in English. The Subtitles are "complete", equally long however they often use different words and I don't mean swear words. I mean blimy, how can you fuck up translating English to English but they do.

Some of those fan subs, double plus so in the Cdrama world are complete garbage. Obviously done by someone with almost no knowledge of English and sometimes you can often not have a clue of what they are even trying to say. Usually for fan subs in Kdramas they are readable, once in a while they use odd constructions which although sort of correct, makes it obvious they don't have a native speaker on the crew.

Biggest problem with reading speed is either when you have a very fast speaker. Once someone starts machine gunning it usually the subs flow too quick for even me to read.
The other problem is when they either try to add cultural information or perhaps translating text in the background while someone is speaking. I have to go back and pause it then.

But what do I know, I only know the 'inglish and Newfie.

It's fan subs. Not surprised a bunch are garbage.
All I know about subtitle translation comes from a woman I know who worked in the job.
I believe her when she says it is really hard to do well.

The dialogue of the boorish white guys nearly ruined it for me.
