Look i never made made fun of what a pick up truck looks like how good it is on gas or how comfortable they may or not be ....i saw the article and i kinda agreed with it when im driving and pick ups are behind me they tend to ride my ass like they own the road In my experience,my best friend has a pick up truck try wearing heels and jumping into that monster truckits not easy is the ride smooth yes does my friend drive more aggressive in the pick up truck than he does in 4 car sedane absolutely why does he ? good question perhaps just a big toy he feels more superior driving than his car. I've lived all over the north majority of guys have pick up trucks cause there tradesmen ....but what stood out in the article to me is that people arent buying because they need it for tools and wood etc... there buying them more now just for the look of one
Why not charge him 250/hr for riding your ass?

Lol...why are pick up trucks considered a menace? it's very convenient for us tradesmen...I love my Ram and not going back to a car or even an SUV....
Because you actually use it. No one faults someone who uses it.

I fault the guy who has a ram 3500 and uses it once a year to help his friend move.

and I wouldn’t say fault but I will call him a nuisance. Especially with his duly wheels and truck needs an extended side mirrors. It’s just ostentatious for no reason. And it brings about an arrogance and attitude not needed while driving.

Just like little go-cart cars. Same thing. Different attitude.

I don't understand it though. If people want to buy a big truck to use it for commute? is it different from buying a maserati or corvette? aren't those cars for showing off too? we might all just use a corolla then? If you really think about it, the souped honda civics are the most annoying as they zip and cut every cars in the 401...easy to spot a douchebag by the way they drive, not what they're driving...

That is it. So many men feel that a truck is “their” vehicle. Like that is what a real man is suppose to drive.

and trucks are just getting out of hand size wise. A pick up truck use to be smaller. Now you have F350s or Ram 3500 when a 150 will do.

Then adding the extended side mirrors that 90% of them don’t need and only use to look cool yet they impede people’s way when paring. Half the big trucks can’t even fit into parking spots making it harder for other vehicles around them.

There is no need for half the trucks on the road other then make ego but I can’t blame men. It is the advertising that made men think this is the “man” vehicle.
Nobody buys an F350 for use as a daily driver. I've driven F350s before and they are a pig to drive. Not fun at all.

Some guys may opt for an F250, but they are most likely in the trades. Very unusual to see even an F250 used as a daily driver.

The F150 (i.e. that class of pickup truck) is the pickup truck of choice for 95 percent of the people who use a pickup truck as a daily driver / combined with use either for work or hauling. It's a very versatile vehicle now days.

It’s soooo horrible in America. In a lot of cities the parking spots are not built for big pickup trucks in mind. So they take up two spots In parking garages and somehow this is alright. Lol

Pickup trucks are massive these day yet they don’t carry more than the more practical trucks of 50 years ago. How tall a front end do you need?
They may be safer for the driver but not for any pedestrian they may Ram.

Sadly, they never used to be but deregulation led to a lessening of the barriers to entry (basically allowing just about anyone to start a trucking company) and a labour shortage that pressures companies to put less trained drivers behind the wheel. Heavy trucks are typically safer (fewer involvements in fatal accidents and far fewer accidents per miles traveled than cars) but when they wreck it's almost always significant. A lessening of enforcement has contributed as well.

The old "Knights of the Road" reputation has been seriously tarnished.

trucks like these are more dangerous

you know pick up trucks aren't wider than an escalade of navigator...they fit all the standard parking spaces...even an f250 will fit a parking space if parked right.

you know people modify their trucks. That’s what I am talking about also a lot of parking garages in cities like downtown Pittsburgh for example aren’t build for trucks. It’s a mission to back out due to the lack of space.

then you should mention "modified" trucks...if trucks take up 2 spaces, then they should pay double.

For 2008-2018 I drove a 2004 Dodge Dakota 4 door, with a rear cap mid sized pickup truck around the suburbs.
At the time I had a DIY house reno needs of new material from home depot, sand and gravel for back yard concrete work etc
Kids and camping gear to Boy Scout camps, as the troop Quartermaster.

First 7 years office was 5km round trip from home. Not even any traffic lights to go though.
I had underground parking there, and often would leave it at the office and walk or bike to work, as a change of pace.
It would see the road on the weekends, and for road trips 400km to see grandma every three weeks, as wife's car was a tiny a Tercel.

I lived no more than 20km round trip to the office for the last few years. But the gas did add up then. About 20K per year in my driving, and it was $3600.
Then it got banged, and my insurance co wrote it off as too old to make any repairs.

Then bought a Chevy Volt Hybrid, and since most of my day and weekend trips are in electric range, first years gas bill was $200. Electric about $750, but over half of that at a free plug at the office. So that fuel saving buys an awful lot of occasional pickup truck or delivery van rentals.

Guess you haven't been to Alberta or Saskatchewan for a while ... almost nobody bothers with 1/2 tons out there, they go right to the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks as DDs.

In a place far, far away
Was at a local big box hardware store a while back. An associate was trying to put a door and door frame into the back of a small sedan. Surprise, it didn’t fit. Associate had to bring door back inside presumably to get a refund.

It was definitely a YouTube moment.

Still loving my F150 Raptor.

It seems like it’s always a pick up truck that has its ass end sticking into my part of my parking space.
I have no problem with pick up trucks but I don’t want them taking up two parking spaces. So if they would like to park like that they should park as far away as possible.

That’s the point. Parked right. So many times they are not

I agree. Park away, in the back and take up 4 spots for all I care

I know a lot of trades men who take nothing more then a single tool box to work and drive Denali‘s. It is for total show.

I don’t fault the guy who actually uses the truck but I know more that don’t then do.

That is just my experience.

That's for F250 and bigger, yes parked right it will fit....f150, dodge ram, colorado, easy to park and no difference from a denali, escalade or navigator...
not all tradesmen are the same...i do carpentry, concrete grinding and painting...you want the dust, dirt, saw dust and smell of paint out of your cab....those stay in the truck bed....something an SUV can't do. If you think about it, an SUV is in fact for a show unless you got more than 5 passengers...

Fur passengers count right? LOL.

I agree. Lots of SUV owners are for show as well. But it is a good compromise if you do use the back folded down a lot. It can carry lots, like wood.

But I get you don’t want that in your “cab”.
