Some variants are very transmissible and more deadly, like Delta. I'd assume the VOIs just arn't. I also would assume the current lot of vaccines are reasably effective vs the VOI or they would become VOC. I guess the ones of interest just are not as brutal so they keep an eye on it [interest] but it isn't time to pull a Ms Helen Lovejoy from the Simpsons about it.
