Homeless people don't necessarily sleep on park benches or under bridges, and they often date each other. A lot of homeless men live at places like The Salvation Army or The Good Shepherd, or Seaton House, where people kicked out of the former two often end up. There are several of them in the Cabbagetown/ Regent Park/ Moss Park/ Corktown area. The womens' shelters are much more comfortable than the men's.
These places tend to have strict curfews for residents to report for the night. At the Sally Ann near Sherbourne and Queen East, those who miss curfew have to live outside for a month. I think guys living at The Good Shepherd, just north of Queen Street East and just east of Parliament Street, have to be in for the night by 7 PM, or something like that. Many of the homeless who spend their entire monthly government cheque by the 3rd of the month eat breakfast and lunch for free at The Good Shepherd, served to non residents between 9-11 AM and 2-4 PM. They get a lot of food donations there daily. For example, all of the unopened or partially eaten boxes from the First Class section of the VIA Rail trains end up there, and Starbuck's desserts that are too old to sell, but still fit for human consumption. 7-11 sandwiches don't end up there; the same ones stay on sale for months.
