Trying to stay in a Happy Place
All the cliches coming out, all the "I told you so's"...everybody doing there analyst imitation...
If the Leafs could have scored the overtime goal in either game 5 or 6 they'd be on to the next round....
Thank you Captain Obvious - that astute observation had completely escaped everyone else's limited grasp of the fine nuances of the game of hockey.

Is that what you told the teams you coached at the Junior and University level - hey guys if we had only scored a goal in overtime we might just have won the game and the series and the championship and maybe some day some of you will be in the HOF with Guy Carbonneau and Bob Gainey !!!!

There may be an opening for you on the Leaf's coaching staff next season.

Maybe showing Lou Lamoriello the door wasn’t such a great idea. I have never been sold on Dubas.
Agreed much respect for lou.
Campbell played some good hockey against very mediocre teams down the stretch but If he is your number 1 goalie you are in trouble.
Agreed again but I love his passion and he's about as good as a plan B as you can expect
Please stop signing aging players with the bullshit ideology of how great their experience will be in the dressing room come playoff time.
Agreed was never sold on Joe. Never thought he was a playoff performer in his youth let alone now.
Manner is not built or wired for physical tighter checking playoff hockey. He’s fun to watch during the regular season though....figure skating around when no one really gives a shit. Things get clamped down in the playoffs.
They used to say that about Steve Yzerman as well.......There's still hope here.
I thought the D played well but agree with others that thought Morgan has lost a step.
He just turned 27 how is it even possible to lose a step at that age?

Carbonneau and Gainey would go through a wall to win a playoff game. They were that rare breed who could elevate their game when the spotlight was on them.....Of course if you are a Leaf fanatic you probably won't be able to see that

Leafs are a great regular season team. We need a great playoff team.

Every year I get excited to watch the Leafs to see how they'll do. Every year I have hope and remain positive throughout the year. But I can see next year is going to be different. My positive attitude makes no difference in the end. Show me you can win a single playoff round. Something you haven't done in 17 years. Give me something to believe in, because you've been nothing but a disappointment. Even if you made it past Montreal but got crushed by the Jets, I'd cut you some slack. But no, you have far better players and were up 3-1 over the 4th. place team. You've turned me into a negative Leafs fan. Fuck you Leafs!

Hard to score an overtime goal in game 5 when one of your players is setting up a 2 on 0 one minute into overtime.

They had a better chance to win in game 6 ot. But then again Jeff Petry scored both leaf goals in regulation. So take those away and it does not go into overtime.

if the Habs had knocked one in game 3... if if if if if if if

and keefe challenging that perry goal in game 6. what was he looking at? good thing they hired manny maholtra to run that pp. its not the size of the dog in the fight, its the size of the FIGHT in the dog. habs showed that, leafs didnt. the old saying, your best players, need to be your best players. changes coming in TRAWNA.
I like Keefe but he can‘t escape criticism. That challenge was a huge mistake. I only had to watch the replay one time to see that there was no goaltending interference. There was still a lot of time left so no need to take that big risk. It’s also disappointing that he wouldn’t own up the mistake.

It was obvious that Thornton was the slowest and ineffective player on ice but Keefe kept throwing him out there over a younger and quicker Brooks. He had two turnovers that costed one game and was partly responsible for one of Sandin’s turn overs. Special team failures are also the responsibilities of the coaches.

I took a Covid break from sports in 20/21 season. Did not watch a single game in any sports, including hockey. Didn't miss much, did I?

Clearly I did not. I mentioned earlier 3 or 4 more significant reasons why the Leafs lost. Did you skip some posts or do you need some Prevagen?

I know that you love taking shots at me but you've got to pick your spots better. That one was a very weak fail.
Everyone can read, and everyone understood what you said. Including me, and I called you out on it. Suck it up, buttercup.

In terms of taking shots at you, I think you overestimate your importance (if not significance) in this universe.

Mathews line fell on their face.
At the very least, I didn't expect the team to go out without a fight.
I kind of go back to my earlier pondering...Matthews is not the superstar everyone thinks he is unless Marner is on his A game. This series, Marner pretty much fell flat, which had a massive impact on Matthews' effectiveness. Add to that there was no Tavares to swap out for Marner either...perfect storm.

For me, the most effective and consistent Leafs this season, and this series, were Muzzin and Holl. Really impressed with Holl's development.

not always sure...
Love the Leafs but this is no excuse. It is weird why the playoff games didn't start earlier. This does not take from the fact that they were up 3 -1 and lost 3 straight.
The Northern Division playoffs were delayed because they had to wait for Vancouver and Calgary to finish their regular season games before they started, after Vancouver’s 3 week covid layoff.
It was nothing more than that - and no, it wasn’t an effort by the league to do in the Leafs.

I agree it was not an anti-Leafs thing but I am still confused as to why the delay when the outcome of the Canucks/Flames had no impact on the playoffs. The playoffs should have proceeded for all qualified teams at the same time, it was pointless to delay.

Marner's gotta go!!
I don't think he needs to go but it might make the most sense for him to be moved. Matthews is the better player so you keep him. Tavares is a lesser player but won't net the same return as Marner, neither will Nylander. We need more defense not less so it makes no sense to move Reilly.
I think the Leafs need to follow the Raptors lead in giving up something substantial for an impactful addition. The Raptors didn't necessarily want to trade Derozan but as Masai said, it would be insane to keep trotting out the same team expecting different results.
I would like to see Marner moved for a true stud defenseman. I don't know what it will take to get a guy like Seth Jones but if he would be a great addition. Too bad we don't have a first round pick to include since we already gave it to Columbus for Foligno to contribute nothing but a stupid pointless fight against Perry after the Tavares injury.

The Leafs need more size and grit up front. Kerfoot too small but can skate but no muscle. Engvall and Soup speedy but can't hit.
The Marner contract is a killer. Nobody would take that, we would have to pay about 30 percent of his salary to play for somebody else. That was Dubas and Shanahans biggest mistake. I would love to see them both get canned. Other GMs are signing far better players for considerably less. I'm talking about playoff players not exhibition game players. I'm shocked when I see how little some players make compared to our big 3 and not 1 series win yet.
Crazy thought. Marner and Eichel make amlost the same. Eichel wants out of Buffalo. Leafs down the middle, Matthews, Eichel and Tavares. Or do the Leafs flip Marner for two good players who make $5M each.
