The article is from 2003, and the Canada Free Press only just found out about it? Typical right-wing rag, always at least four generations behind the times.
But I'll play their silly game. Not to back them up, but to explain why it's a non-issue. The first time I heard it back in '03 I expressed concern, but, over a beer or several, a well-known local sports writer I know put it in perspective for me with one simple sentence; "Somebody has to be." And he's right. Unless you want to have an exact quota system, some team will always be the whitest, or blackest. If you had a sports league with only one white player in it, whichever team had him would be the whitest. 76 years ago today, the Brooklyn Dodgers became the blackest team in baseball. THAT was an issue for many white people, mostly for all the wrong reasons. THIS is not, as far as I can see.
I will listen to counter arguments, but I think it's pretty well cut and dried.
