Not a very good game defensively. In the playoffs you will see the same kind of effort and hard work except the opposition will be a much talented team than Ottawa. Rielly has to play lot better defensively and quarterbacking the pp. Holl seems to have troubles with hard fore checking. Ottawa kept the game close with their determination and they lost because they don’t have a Matthews or a Marner.

Only 1 team can have Matthews and Marner. LOL!

Somewhere Dart is holding his golden mic screaming for Marner to shoot more because assists don't count.

Both Kane and Marner have exactly 14 goals and 38 assists. Kane in 42 games, Marner in 41.

Don't tell Darts Marner is now better than Kane.

Leafs need to get the powerplay going, in the last 34PP, the Leafs have 1PPG and allowed 3SHG, a minus -2.

Speaking of PP, McD has an astounding 26 pts on the PP. Matthews and Marner 11 and 13 respectively.
Top 3 in the league at even strength pts is McD, Matthews, Marner in that order with 43, 41, 38 pts respectively.
So in effect Matthews has 2 less even strength pts than McD with 4 less games played. PP is the difference.
Edmonton has the 2nd best PP in the league.

As a Sens fan I was happy with my teams intensity and as they say compete level last night.

But the Leafs are just the better team plain and simple.

Marner and Matthews are just incredible in the opposing teams zone. Christ they are even elevating Galchenyuk's game.

If I was those two I would conspire to play their careers together. They make opposing teams defenses look amateur.

Leafs are just an exciting team to watch.. Still not sure if their style lends itself to deep playoff success though but we will see.

The Sens have a plethora of young talent both on the team and in the system. Batherson 20, Tkchuck 20, Stutzle 18, Norris 21, Brannstrom 20, Formenton 20. They're a little disappointed in the progression of Brannstrom thus far but the rest are right on track to be good to great NHL'ers.

Down on the farm Egor Sokolov 20 and Lassi Thomson 19 are turning heads while top draft picks Jacob Bernard Docker 20, Jake Sanderson 18 and Tyler Kleven 18 who are all defensemen and played for The University Of north Dakota this year are a promising group for the future. Also on that roster was USA world junior standout Shayne Pinto. Another Sens high draft pick.

On the negative side former 11th overall selection logan Brown 22 has really had a hard time with injuries and his play when healthy has been sub par. Management has soured on him.

The Sens long term success and viability hinges on their ability to build a new downtown facility still and that looks dead in water at this point.

We have a trade to announce:

The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired Nick Foligno & Stephan Nosen.
The Maple Leafs give up a 1st round pick and 2 4th round selections.
It appears that Columbus will retain 50% of Foligno's salary, San Jose will retain 50% of the remaining salary.
The Maple Leafs will be on the hook for 25% of Foligno's remaining salary.

Foligno a former Sens first round pick plays the game hard and doesn't take a shift off.

This is a quality addition by the Leafs

Stephan Noesen also a 1st round pick by the Senators (2011).

Yes I remember him now. He never played for us.

We swapped him and Silverberg for Bobby Ryan.

Not one of Bryan Murray's better trades looking back.

Do you figure Noesen cracks the Leafs lineup?.......I'm thinking he's just spare parts.

The first rounder I just looked up was in 2014. 10th overall...Yikes.

Ducks selected Nick Ritchie.......So that didn't turn out so well for them.

Still Silverberg had a better career since the trade than Ryan did. Plus the Sens signed him to that huge long term deal.
