Thanks for clarifying. $135k is good money, but not enough to buy a house in Toronto. Ill have a chat with my son and help set his expectations.
I would say $135k is on the higher side with a lot of luck. For serious money in Engineering in Toronto, your son would need to get into the power generation business. That may max out at 140 at Director level.

Now I understand why so many engineers and lawyers work in finance. A director level in finance starts somewhere around 150k/175k to north of a million a year, depending on the role and there is no correlation between compensation and the number of people that reports into you.

Can you code? I work in finance and many firms are looking for python coders. I believe the going rate is $125 - $150/hr. Many traders I know are engineers or programmers. Not sure if you have the killer instinct or desire to work long hours to be a trader, but the jobs are lucrative...easily hit mid 6 figures after a few years.
Jesus....is it to late for me to become a python coder?? lol

I should also mention I'm dumb as fuck so if it's confusing learn I'd probably be in trouble...lol.

I read today that a Toronto house costs $932K. Gee, I should've researched this place before moving here. How does a middle class person afford this ? I reached out to my friends on LinkedIn who managed to not get laid off. Apparently the salaries are around 85K. Assuming wife works, and on similar salary, that's 170k/yr paying a $932k house.

Apparently it's worse in BC. There is an opening in my field and my friend is trying to hook me up. House is about a million and the manager wants to offer 70K for 10y experience. My friend lives in a Townhouse and his wife works so that's how they survive.

Maybe we can help you find a reasonably priced home as well as a job. And somebody here should be able to help you with a mortgage.

Anything else that we can help you with?

Well, if you put it that way, your situation sounds hopeless. I would give up.

Given work from home situations, people are moving to the fringes of the suburbs and condos

This situation is what is wrong with the Toronto housing market. Given the ability to work from home, some people are opting to buy in the fringes of the GTA hoping to snag an affordable home. Even places as far as Ajax or Oshawa has seen town houses double in the last 3 years. I really don’t know how young people do it these days without a good paying job or help from family.

Lots of young people and some not so young are waiting for inheritance to save the day. I personally know of a few individuals and families which make no secrets they are not worried about savings because when the parents pass they will get a large sum.

If you guys help me find a sugar mama, I'd take care of the rest myself. I used Sassy Angels last week and the woman strongly recommended I try looking for a Sugar Mama. She uses Sassy Angels, Seeking Arrangement and Uber to make a living. 3 sources of income is what you need apparently to get by in Toronto.

The Suburbs are expensive too. Basically you need to live in the Prairies or Atlantic to survive. One can try living in Mexico too but it's only good for 6 months/yr. I'd move to Costa rica and live off of Dividends, but then again, it's only for 6 months.

So people in Quebec, Ontario and B.C. are not surviving? They are the most populated provinces with the largest economies.

Looks like Oshawa, Kitchener, Hamilton, Niagara or Ottawa are places where a regular salary income can buy a home.
