Most famous Canadian Ukrainian artist was William Kureleke from Alberta. His surname may have been spelled differently which was not unusual. I myself am a second generation Ukrainian and my surname is very similar to his although I am not related and this is not unusual as my ancestors had different versions of their last names.

Ukraine was part of Slavic world long before Russian Empire which originated in 1721. Since then Ukraine was a part of Russian Empire, followed by Soviet Union and finally became independent Ukraine in 1991.

Crimea was traded by defeated Ottoman Empire and became a part of Russian Empire in 1783. It was given for administration to Ukraine in 1954, not sold, given away or gifted... like Alaska, which was sold to USA by Russian Empire.

If some American states ever separated from USA and became independent countries like California or Texas, what you're saying would very much sound like USA was raping California or Texas. And in your version Americans and Californians or Texans would become different nations.

I'm not quite sure at what point Russia raped Ukraine. They've been one and the same for centuries.

Revolution of 1917-1921 killed a ton of people. There was no Ukraine at that time or Russia. It was all Russian Empire, then it was all Soviet Union which came into existence in 1921. Majority of Ukrainians back in the day were farmers. In the late 1890,s to early 1900,s the Canadian Government offered free land to them if they immigrated to Canada and settled in Manitoba or Saskatchewan to farm. My grandparents on both my mother and father's side came to Canada. My parents were both born out west as was I. A large portion of people in Man. and Sask. are of Ukrainian descent.
