A few NHL hockey players of Ukrainian background. Mike Bossy, Terry Sawchuck ( who apparently was a real asshole) and Wayne Gretzky whose ancestors were of Polish, Russian, and Ukrainian descent. Gordie Howe although born and grew up in Saskatchewan was not of Ukrainian background.Yes, I noticed that when I spent part of my life out west in my 20's. I think the land out west reminds them of Ukraine.

To this day, I don't understand why the Canadiens didn't draft Mike Bossy (a Montreal boy). Apparently, he didn't fit their system. Weak defensively, fragile and not sufficiently aggressive in either zone. BTW: CBC will re-broadcast "Goalie", the Terry Sawchuk story.
