Moved from Jamaica to Canada as a very young kid.
Grew up on Metal/Hard Rock/Class Rock/Classical ...added Jazz about 20 yr ago.
Can't remember if Randy Rhoads turned me onto it, or if I loved it even before i found RR.
Absolutely LOVE classical! Sometimes I say that a law was ever passed only allowing us to listen to one form of music, I'd probably chose classical.
I can get my rock fix from listening to paganini caprices. The OG rock music!

I learned to play the Accordian as a youngster and learned a few Marching songs. My favourite was the Grande March Aida, by Guiseppe Verdi which was a very famous opera. Loved it.

I learned to play the accordion at age 9, not sure if I've retained it.

RIP Paolo "Il falcone" Rossi.

Opera superstar Aida Garifullina from Russia is better-looking than most pop stars and sings a helluva lot better, as well.

That was awesome jeri.

I'd be afraid of getting venereal warts from some of these pop stars. Katy Perry is a weapon of musical destruction.

Paul McCartney would like this.

It is amazing but once you learn to read music you will usually retain it. When I was older and married with 2kids I bought a huge used piano and after work I would sit down and play old songs that I knew with a glass of single malt scotch at my side. I also sent my kids to take piano lessons which they hated but now as adults they have done the same with our grandkids. IMHO, I believe all kids should learn to play any musical instrument of their choice as it helps develope their brain power.

One of the reasons the USA has become a shithole nation is the cuts they've made to public education. Musical studies was cut from most curriculum, without you can't develop problem solving skills nor perspective.

I moved on from the accordion to the cello, then the guitar. With the guitar I rang into a problem, I could play melodies without a problem but I was a lost cause when it came to rhythm.

You must be Ukrainian. My mother insisted I learn the accordian and sent me to a music academy for lessons which was called Mundinger Music School above Cole's on Charles Street. It was the biggest accordian academy in North America. Once a year all the students and teachers played a concert at Massey Hall. 100 accordians 1 piano and 4 drummers. And we all had to wear those white frilly blouse tops, how gay. However, I don't regret it. As an adult I bought a beautiful huge piano for home use and learned to play popular songs. I was just an average player but I got my 2 kids to learn to play and they did the same with our grandkids.

This Renaissance choral work by Tomas Luis de Victoria is quite possibly the finest music ever written for Christmas.

Here's a interesting exploration from composer David Bruce. As for Erik Saite making fun of Beethoven - the German composer enjoyed chair pulling as a practical joke. Erik Saite would have a tender tailbone.
