Well folks, for those like myself that have long thought Rogers Centre was one of the worst stadiums in baseball, you might just get to see a new stadium in our lifetime.

That's interesting, since they don't own the land. I'm pretty sure the city does. I imagine it will be a difficult negotiation.

Well they're looking at some plans along the water as well, but I would imagine the city would make more money from a stadium then something else, so one would think Rogers will use that leverage a better deal no???

I would have home plate face the other way, with the lake being the back drop for the outfield. I'm assuming it'll have a retractable roof, (given our climate) how well does natural grass grow indoors?

Interesting news indeed, not surprised though. Like BBL said - awful stadium for everything, saw a lot of concerts there and always wondered why the sound was awful. Nothing beats Maple Leaf Gardens, maybe because it was a different time and the fact that I saw my first concert there, Thunder Seven Tour by Triump - amazing venue, amazing sound and amazing smells.... :ROFLMAO:

For sure it will have a retractable roof. My guess it will be a transparent one roof of some sort that allows sunlight in because it's going to be natural grass so whatever works.

It took the 680News article 6 paragraphs to state something that I know is false.
How much other inaccurate information is there?

The current ballpark remains one of only two left in Major League Baseball that uses artificial turf instead of real grass.
Oh that's just some dumb journalist that's getting wrong info from somewhere or doesn't realize some of the other stadiums have converted back to turf the past few years so he has Tampa and Toronto stapled in his mind. Regardless, the new stadium is coming.

If I set the Before/After at 2030 (start of season), would you bet the Before or After?

For completion? I'm think before. 2027 I'm thinking. A few more years to getting zoning laws and permits and all stuff straightened out, shovel hits ground sometime in 2023 and 4 years to complete it.

The souffle dish is too antiseptic for baseball. At least at Exhibition Stadium, I could sneak a dozen beers in my parka.

One item Ellis Don got right is the retractable roof, in spite of it getting continuously pelted by ice from the CN Tower, it's always worked.

Ellis Don didn't come up with the idea for the roof. The designer/architect did. Ellis Don just built it.

Nah, just some duffle bags with money “accidentally” left in a few councillors offices is all it will take. Or donations to their re-election campaign fund. Or both

Apparently, Roger's thinking is that the smaller stadium will be easier to fill. Of course a competitive team can do that, too- as the old enough among us remember when the Jays used to sell out and did so regularly.
