My alma mater has renamed their sports teams "redbirds".

BTW: The LSU football team had a defensive squad nicknamed the "Chinese Bandits". The Chinese part was dropped many years ago.

They should have changed it to the Intelligent, Hard working, Law abiding and Non-violent Bandits.

REDMEN had NOTHING to do with slagging Indians sorry First Nations people. It was derived from their football team uniforms which were all RED pants jerseys etc. Maybe the hockey teams too but not sure.

Many people agree with you, but there were a number of complaints and a lot of people spent a lot of time looking into how to remedy the problem. The announcement of the new name came out today.
