As the MLB season winds down (looks like Tampa could have both a Stanley Cup and World Series championship, ridiculous), I was wondering if one time Blue Jay Jeff Kent would ever make it to the baseball HOF.

"Career statistics
In 2298 games over 17 seasons, Kent posted a .290 batting average (2461-for-8498) with 1320 runs, 560 doubles, 47 triples, 377 home runs, 1518 RBI, 94 stolen bases, 801 bases on balls, .356 on-base percentage and .500 slugging percentage. He finished his career with a .978 fielding percentage. In 49 postseason games, he hit .276 (47-for-170) with 25 runs, 11 doubles, 9 home runs, 23 RBI and 13 walks.[6] Kent hit 351 HR as a second baseman, the most in MLB history in either league.[17]"

P.S. Whew, Kershaw not starting to-night.

Some members might ask if Kent would wear a Blue Jays cap were he ever elected to the HoF.

Some members might say the Blue Jays trading Kent ranks among the worst trades ever (made by Wolley Segap, otherwise known as Pat Gillick) in club history.

Flags fly forever.

To answer this member's question, I think he belongs in the hall of very good.

In this, his 7th year on the ballot, he was named on 27.5% of ballots.

I don't think he can get there from here.

Kent for Cone was not a bad trade since Cone helped win the World Series with an OK post season. If we didn't win tho, we'd be hearing about it forever.
With an established Robbie Alomar at 2nd base, Kent would have to move positions.
We needed pitching at the time for the post-season push. It was a logical trade.

(Larry Walker got in on his last ballot so one never know.)
Jeff Kent W.A.R. 55.4

Larry Walker W.A.R. 72.7

Walker was a significantly better player.

Yes, the Hall of Very Good...I think I remember that he had a reputation of not being a great teammate and not very popular with the media.

Ok so the Blue Jays didn't trade away a HOFer for David Cone.

He certainly benefited from the Coors effect didn't he? As did Dante Bichette ,Andres Galarraga and Vinny Castilla.

Walker's postseason stats aren't anything to write home about either. Although the majority of them are later in his career.

Still he laid an egg in 95 when they got swept.

But WAR doesn't take into account post season play or a home playing field advantage does it?

Too me it is Walker who should be in the home of very good and Kent who is more deserving.

I remember him getting into it in the dugout with Barry bonds so that's got to go on his side.......

I liked Kent. He put up some great numbers in SF with a non hitter friendly home park.

just read this article and it just changed my stance on Kent,lol.........Hall of very good it is

Hall of Very Good is a spot for Fred McGriff.

Listen as a Yankee fan I don't want to think about the fact that we traded Fred and Dave Collins to you guys for essentially Dale Murray!

Now that's a terrible trade......I'm sure George was behind it as well.

Larry Walker's numbers were better away from Coors Field than home games when he played in Denver.

As a young Blue Jays fan at the time, I was very pleased with that trade.
Though, I thought Collins was the bigger piece at the time.
After all, prospects are suspect.

Fred McGriff was a better player than Carlos Delgado, both very solid MLB players.
I believe they belong in the Hall of Very Good.

There will always be controversy about some who get in and some who don't. Gary Carter and Ron Santo were controversial selections however, they were both media types after their playing career ended and that didn't hurt their HOF prospects.
