What is your choice for best Police drama show of all time?

1- "Law and Order" franchises ( L and O, Criminal Intent, SVU)

2-"Columbo"

Honourable mentions: Hill St Blues, NYPD Blue, Police Story

During the lock down re-watched lots of complete cop show series. These two held up the best since I had first watched them when they originally aired. Hill Street Blues not so much.

Have to say political correctness hadn't been invented when they first shot NYPD Blues. "Beating the perp's balls off" and other forms of physical intimidation were presented as being OK, as long as the cop was pretty sure the guy was guilty and they needed a confession. On the other hand, on NYPD Blue there was an equal balance of races who were portrayed as the perps, as opposed to more recent cop shows where at least 75% of the perps are shown as being black, Latino, or Chicano.

I like the Law and Order series and Columbo but I would add Chicago PD, Line Of Duty, The Shield, Nypd Blue, The Wire, Homicide(Life on the Street), Justified and True Detective. I would also add Criminal minds and 24 but I don't know if those are considered cop shows

One could argue that Law and Order is a court series as much as a police series.

I think some of the differences are a little too nuanced. There's a lot of overlap.
