Swedish model has been deemed a success. It appears herd immunity has been achieved despite no lockdown, or silly wearing of masks.
This is from Jonas Ludvigsson, professor of epidemiology at Karolinska Institute:

And before you bring up up their high mortality rate, that also is wrong and I'll post why later today when I get home

Herd immunity achieved? My ass.

No lockdown? But in practice the people locked themselves down, so much the same as a lockdown in reality.

No wearing of masks? Even your article states "Swedes are advised to wear mask but it is not compulsory" & shows a pic of a mask wearer.

A success? Five times more total deaths than their 3 neighbours with a 50% larger population is not "success", but failure.

BTW their 3 neighbours did not have much mask wearing & shutdown.

I see, so tell me what has gone wrong with the US because it would seem to me the red states are following Sweden's lead and going for herd immunity?

How else do you explain Sweden currently has very few new daily infections, and almost no deaths??
And this is without locking down and almost nobody wearing masks.

If you dont mind Lenny, I'll take the word of Jonas Ludvigsson who's a professor of epidemiology over yours

Small pop density, high level of group support and following of the rules.
In theory, if eveyone followed the rules, the virus would die out after 2 to 3 weeks.
Herd immunity with the new mutations appears not to work past 3 months.

Sorry, I'm not buying that explanation.
In Sweden there has to be lots of people who arent following the rules, just as in any other country

Herd immunity for the win.

Meanwhile Canada intends to play whack-a-mole for however long it takes for a vaccine that may prove to be useless.

So when it comes to Sweden you have the good sense to consider that fact there are lots of people who aren't following the rules just as in any other country, but when it comes to Canada you pretend that everyone is following the rules to advance your narrative that masks do not work.

No, I concede the fact that not everyone is following the rules in Canada either (or any other country for that matter).
My point is many people were not following the rules well before masks were made mandatory in Ontario, so nothing changes to that effect.
So if nothing changes, and masks were made mandatory, how come new infections are going up and not down??

May I suggest you self induce and begin the Herd Immunity Amigo campaign?

Much larger population and lockdowns means herd immunity takes A LOT longer, if at all. Not rocket science.
Since when does science ever enter the Amigo free-wheeling opinions and distorted reality?

Sweden is only one of many countries who presently have few infections & deaths. Yet the experts are generally not claiming those countries have achieved herd immunity, either. Not even close.

As I posted in another Sweden thread here, a recent study had Sweden at only about 10% of people who have antibodies to C-19. Nowhere near to herd immunity.

And this is without locking down and almost nobody wearing masks.

What "word" is that? Is he an unbiased source? Do the vast majority of the world's health experts disagree with him?

The following chart shows many ups and downs in C-19 cases in Ontario since mid June.

Though during that time there has not been a great change in the number of cases relative to the earlier pandemic.

The recent little spike may be related to people going out to shop & prepare for going back to school.

Or other factors, such as increased irresponsibility. Possibly in part due to more people being bewitched by conspiracy theories & other lies rampant on social media.

Its herd immunity to the point where the spreading of the virus drastically slows down, but it doesnt stop altogether.
Maybe herd immunity is the wrong term to use, but I think you get what I'm saying

My facebook buddy who lives in Sweden says almost nobody wears a mask. He would know, he lives in Stockholm

Not true. They had much more stringent rules

What "word" is that? Is he an unbiased source? Do the vast majority of the world's health experts disagree with him?
This is also not true. The scientific world is divided on whether masks make much difference

In that case, Phil by all means don't wear your mask like you claim you actually do. Go into crowded spaces, elevators, grocery stores and flaunt what you preach. Do not pretend to claim you wear a mask yet at every chance falsely claim they do not work. Do it! Man up! God will protect you!

If you don't wear a mask, you may be assaulted and in some places arrested.

That's a small, small price to pay for your liberty, Know! The US fought for 10 years for gain its freedom and suffered a million dead from British oppression. You won't even push your way into Metro and call the security guards "Trudeau's Nazi Gestapo" when they ask you to put on a mask.

That's the sort of lackluster spirit which has brought our country to its knees. I expected better of you and frankly I am disappointed!
