Think that the number of people flaunting the rules could have something to do with it? 23 cases from one wedding
You dont think in Sweden people are flaunting the rules??

You keep banging on about Sweden as an example to follow, but only lately has Sweden has done ok. There are other countries that at the very start was ontop of things with PPE, testing, contact tracing, etc... like Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, New Zealand, and Australia. Taiwan has a total of 7 deaths, SK has a total of 336 deaths, HK has a total of 98 deaths, Japan has a total of 1363 deaths, NZ has a total of 24 deaths, AUS has a total of 762 deaths. Sweden on the other hand has over 5k deaths, yet that is the model you advocate for and not the other countries that have done about 10x better than sweden on a per capita basis
Again, I'm not disputing Sweden has had an insanely high death rate.
Let me repeat in upper case: I'M NOT DISPUTING SWEDEN HAS HAD AN INSANELY HIGH DEATH RATE!

What I'm trying to figure out is how come over the last 3 months or so Sweden has lowered their new infection rate without making masks mandatory, while other countries who have mandated masks are actually seeing their new cases go up

Of course not
Liberals think mask armour is infallible
They blame those who refuse to wearing masks as the "real" cause of covid

Never mind that even in countries where they wear masks still having covid outbreaks

MASKS DO NOTHING
The stupidity in trying to claim otherwise (or even trying to blame others for eg "failing to wear a mask properly" is laughable)
I pretty much agree with you.

The only exception I'll make is when people are in close proximity of each other (like airplanes, buses, streetcars....etc).
Then its better to wear a mask.

Other then that they are useless.
How the hell am I gonna infect someone in a store if I'm standing 2 or 3 metres away from them (with or without a mask)??

Infection rates are important only as an indicator for who's at risk. What most people have bought into is that we are all at risk regardless of being infected. With a mortality rate of .01%, WHO CARES?

There are no other diseases with a .01% mortality such as normal flues, Hepatitis A and many other diseases ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_human_disease_case_fatality_rates ).

We have gone from treating sick people to being unsafe from even getting sick as the most important issue in society, greater than treating people with other diseases like breast cancer, heart attacks, and other things treatable through nonelective surgical cures which had been stopped entirely by hospital closures and are slow to come back.

Wearing masks is no more effective than washing hands with social distancing (BTW, WHO says 1 meter, while CDC says 2 meters based on the same science).

My practice is - behave as though everyone has the virus, wash or sanitize often, don't touch mouth, ears, nose, eyes before washing, drink often when among people ( drinking and eating puts any virus into your virus toxic stomach vs into virus thriving lungs).

There is credible information now that the cautions early on were vastly over stated, or misstated.

Read the first 2 or 3 chapters and the conclusion.

The experts dont know shit. Here's what the WHO said just a few months ago:
Nonsense & irrelevant. As if you - an amateur - know more than the experts.

"Yes, this is the process intelligent people follow.

When there is new information, or the understanding of a situation evolves, intelligent people modify their opinions and advice. AKA "change their minds".

Others who are threatened by their own fear and insecurity that they may be wrong, doggedly stick to their original position and find excuses to justify their inability to learn from new information."

"Unfortunately ignorant, loud and irrational people can not understand or interpret these facts properly because they are blinded by their own selfish wants/gains or guided by their political agenda."

You're an amateur too. You're only following the "experts" and erroneously think they can't possibly be wrong

Wrong. Again as i already implied in my previous post to you i've read the evidence for & against masks & agree with the vast majority of experts. BTW I've even done my own experiments & posted the results here. Of course anyone can "possibly be wrong".

You cannot possibly have done experiments on masks and coronavirus, so your little "experiments" are useless

The virus exists in liquid droplets & is airborne. My experiments tested various masks re liquid (water) penetration & re stopping air flow through them, so i think they are quite relevant & prove that masks are effective:

Which was just common sense, anyway, as per the title of this thread, and without even doing the experiments.

Like many others, he's cherry picking his experts and the science that corroborates his long held beliefs while ignoring any contradictory or 'inconvenient' material.

Yup spike is coming despite majority now wearing masks
Hmm
But yeah
Science
Spikes in infections happen because of shutdowns ending, people going back to work, school, socially mingling, acting irresponsibly, not social distancing or washing hands, touching faces, etc. Even wearing masks may not reduce infections when that happens, though there are many examples of mask wearing leading to fewer infections & fewer deaths.

"...more than 500 COVID-19 infections in Canada have been linked to public venues including stores, bars, restaurants, daycares and schools since the beginning of July as more businesses continue to reopen and restrictions are eased."

"...According to the new data, more than half of the recent infections involved food sales, with potential exposure to the virus reported at 85 grocery stores, liquor stores and restaurants.

"...it is likely that there may have been more exposure warnings and subsequent infection than those reported."

" The data found that places most affected by potential exposure and infections include Loblaw grocery chains such as No Frills, Real Canadian Superstore and Shoppers Drug Mart throughout cities in Ontario and Alberta. Exposure warnings were also issued for some of Loblaw's Provigo stores in Montreal.

"... Other grocery stores affected included Walmart and IGA. "

"..."We know that in indoor environments like restaurants when there's multiple people close together for prolonged periods of time, those are perfect environments for this virus to be transmitted and certainly if the virus is introduced to a setting like that, it would come to no one surprised that we'll see subsequent cases," Bogoch said.

"... exposure warnings issued for multiple locations of Cactus Club Cafe, The Keg, Fire N Ice Lounge and Village Brewery.

Actually they were not all wearing masks. (That's part of the problem.) Obviously people at restaurants don't wear masks while eating. If they wear them at all. And the vast majority i've seen in restaurants do not wear masks at all. Furthermore many are not wearing masks at all when they leave home.
