Trade Tavares for a tough ass that scores 20. Make him captain. Is there one around? These guys won’t do shit with this leadership. Plus some fresh out of university book stat kid as the G.M.?!? (I honestly don’t know anything about him...I’m just venting).

Philip
Do go on, Phil.

John Tavares has a full NMC in his contract.
He took less money to come to Toronto.
JT91 isn't going anywhere.

You're right, you don't know anything about Kyle Dubas.

The team needs a shaking up! This should spell the end of the Dubas era. His formula is not working. This team needs a tougher grittier approach. Trade Nylander, maybe even Marner. Dee is stil weak. Bring in some tougher forwards who are able to score.

This team is a disaster, plain and simple.

Three minutes left in the 3rd and who's on the ice? Why it's 50yo castoff Jason Spezza! Are you kidding me!? That's who you put out there to close the gap and hopefully get an equalizer? While Matthews, Tavares, Marner, Kapanen, and Hyman are on the bench 'resting'? Resting my ass! Get the fuck out there and play the full last 3 mins if you have to. That's what you're paid for! Same with Reilly. Ride that fucker into the ground when the game and playoffs are on the line.

Talent-wise, this team is just not an NHL-caliber roster. Spezza, Gauthier, Marincin, Ceci, Barrie, Kerfoot, Engvall, Holl, Clifford and Muzzin all have to go. These are just not NHL-level players. End of life, career AHL or KHL, but not good enough to be a regular on any NHL franchise that says it wants to win a cup.

LIke it or not, trade Marner for a couple grit players (top six) who can support Tavares and Matthews, plus a couple role players with experience (bottom six). It'll hurt, but you gotta give up something to get something. He's really all you got as bait.

Time to end the Nylander experiment too. Totally afraid of the tough going, constantly going for a long skate in a wide circle after giving up the puck along the boards, missing a reaching stick check, or making a turnover with yet another bad/useless pass. Plays with zero passion and grit. Won't crash the net. Was a total non-factor in this series. Many times, the Leafs looked shorthanded with him on the ice, he was always so far out of the play. Yeah, he'll score goals in the regular season against mostly the bottom feeding teams, or when he can dipsy doodle around on the power play where there is no chance anyone will try to crunch him, but he won't win you many, if any, important games on his own like Tavares, Marner, or Matthews can/will/have. For his salary, the Leafs need to get more out of him, and he ain't got anything more to give. Even Marner manned up and blocked shot after shot at the point, even playing goalie on the empty net without wetting his pants. And he's built like a 13 year old girl! You'll NEVER EVER see slick Willie do that. EVER.

Keep: Matthews, Tavares, Reilly, Hyman, Kapanen, Mikheyev, Roberston, Johnsson, Dermott, Sandin, Rosen, Malgin, Liljegren and maybe Muzzin for one more season. They have propects like Agostino dying for a chance...why not give it to them.

They also need to bring in someone who can really challenge Andersen. Campbell ain't gonna do it. This team can't have its starter continue to give up soft goals at critical moments without consequences. He's a good goalie, but he hasn't stolen a series for them, or led them deep into the playoffs so far...nothing to suggest he will either. Someone else needs to be brought in to share the load like Jarry and Murray in PIT.

If this franchise is going anywhere, it better look dramatically different when the new 2020-21 season gets going. As bad as the Leafs are, CBJ are worse and they still stonewalled to a series win.

This season has been nothing short of an embarrassment. You already blamed and changed the coach, and the new GM still isn't getting it done. Maybe Dubas needs to take ride somewhere else too.

"Tkachuk's new contract keeps him with the team through the 2021-22 season. The deal carries an annual average value of $7 million, which is the highest on Calgary's roster. The contract is back-end loaded, according to capfriendly.com, with a third-year payday of $9 million."

Question: What would the Leafs have to give up to get him?

Mathew Tkachuk would look great in blue and white.

not always sure...

He’s not a hockey player, he’s an animal.
The Flames are an impossible team to like, unless you live there.
The Canucks and Habs play exciting hockey and are fun to watch. The Flames are just an unfortunate group of characters.
Pulling for Matthew Tkachuk is as gratifying as pulling for Milan Lucic. I mean, you could.... but why would you?

The jettisoning of Lou Lamoriello might be the biggest issue here. He has always been a keen evaluator of talent and knows how to build a winning team.

I still believe that they have the significant pieces to the puzzle. It's just the supporting cast has to be retooled.

We lost out on the lottery and the 1st round pick went to Carolina as part of the Marleau trade.

.....This should spell the end of the Dubas era.
Well sure, it's been 2 full, well, not full, but 1 full, and 1 season interrupted by a worldwide pandemic.
The general manager has obviously had more than enough time to put his plan in place.
How his team hasn't won the Cup is unfathomable!

The Shanaplan went in the wrong direction the day Shanny decided to go with Dubas over Lamoriello and Hunter. Dubas manages like he’s still managing the Marlies. How much longer will it take before he learns how to manage a NHL team ?

What a fuck-up! So, Carolina ("Sweet Caroline") got Reimer, Gardiner and the Leaf's 1st round draft pick. All that to create cap room to sign Marner who scored 16 goals this year.

Are Barrie (UFA), Ceci (UFA) and Dermott (RFA) still unsigned?

Alex Pietrangelo is an UFA but I doubt the Leaf's have the cap room to sign him.

Would have been a better solution if Dubas just traded Nylander for defence/prospect. We would have :
1)a 13th pick, 2) better defence, 3) Marleau, 4) getting rid of a floater.

The season might not be a total loss if Matthews wins the Lady Byng Trophy. Gordie Howe, Bobby Orr, Jean Beliveau, Rocket Richard among other great hocky players never won the Byng.

"player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct"
It would be a real humiliation to win a trophy associated with such scum as Toe Blake and Mats Naslund.

Personally, I'd refuse the 'honour', to be placed in the same category at those two dusters.
