Was shooting him required though? That's the tricky part. I would think not. But in the Monday morning quarterbacking when time slows down and you can stop and think logically not pressed for split second decisions it seems there might have been a few more options. But unfortunately this event happens in real time, split seconds, and under those circumstances the shooting could be reasonable.
If they were trained properly and knew that they would be accountable for their actions then it's not that tricky. The guy with a taser did not present an imminent threat to anyone so the cops had the time and space to resolve it without pulling the trigger.

Right... so police are now allowed to punish people for "mights" and "could haves".
Got it.
Ok, Minority Report.
They have been doing that and killing them too for what they "might" or "could have" done unrelentingly now for decades and centuries.

I dont understand why he started running. Where was he gonna run to??...
Other than natural instinct in pretty much any animal? Logic usually doesn't come into play when people get scared, especially when they are drunk.

Here's an interesting take on it from a southern guy who used to train police.

Don't agree with all his points but he knows a hell of a lot more about police procedures and training than any of us.

Here's what Brooks should have done.

1) Hands up.

2) Knees down.

3) Lie flat on tummy.

That's what the Asian knifeman did last week at the Toronto protest. Brooks did everything wrong. Resisted arrest, stole taser and fired taser at police.

Here's what the cops should have done.

1) Keep their distance

2) Take the time to deescalate if possible

3) Use less-lethal force if #2 failed

Once you fire the first shot, then the other guy is free to fire the second shot.

So you're saying that after the cops tried to taser him, he was free to try and taser the cops?

You do realize the difference between a taser and a gun right?

I can speak only about my personal experience with American cops. (Other people's stories tend to be self-serving one way or the other.) Was a frequent visitor to the U.S. for 10 years and virtually lived there for 2 years. Had several interactions with American cops. Never had any problems. One state trooper even gave me a ticket for speeding (my bad, I took that curve at 44mph when I thought it was 44kph).

Black man here,

Haven't read the thread, but I'll say this....

This is NOT a George Floyd situation. Dude was being detained, got free, took a weapon, and ran. In the heat of the moment, they had no choice.

The reason why he tried to resist arrest and run?

He was sentenced to 7 years for beating his children, was on parole because of covid-19. He knew this arrest will lead him back to jail.

If you don't believe me, go directly to Georgia's records: http://www.dcor.state.ga.us/GDC/Offender/Query
Go to Search by ID or Case Number, then input his Georgia Department of Corrections ID:
GDC ID: 1001370147

He had multiple charges including "false imprisonment", "cruelty to children", etc.
He knew he would go back to jail, so he tried to resist arrest and run for it.

The full video shows police officers being very reasonable with him.

Meanwhile they go with this headline right away without any investigation:
"Atlanta police chief resigns after officers fatally shoot black man who was sleeping in his car" - The Huffington Post
Absolutely ridiculous

Clearly a sufficient reason to pop two bullets into his back as he’s running away !!

It's a tough spot to be a police officer, they did everything right up until the shooting took place. The man did everything right up until he went full maniac and tried to grab the police officers taser and gun, wrestle with them, and try to shoot the taser at the cop. The officers were trying their best telling him to stop fighting, not grab the taser, etc. I wish he hadn't died, but I can't defend him after doing all that. Is the cop just supposed to just let him run after he tried to taser them and wrestled them?

And I was simply pointing out why he tried to resist arrest, I think it makes it clear now. Most people were confused why he acted so irrationally all of a sudden.

His children are probably breathing a sigh of relief that he’s dead.

I kept wondering why a man would react so violently over a DUI arrest. Now we know.

I guess we will never know and you know why?

Because that is not what occurred and because the cop shot the black man in the back from a distance of 8 - 10 feet and left him to die on the pavement like a dog then put on latex gloves the pick up the shell casings and thus obstructing justice.

Stop killing black men and women for selling single cigarettes on the street; for a $20 bill; for running through a park; for simply being at home with their child; it's that simple.
Stop resisting arrest it's that simple. They didn't leave him to die on the pavement that's a false narrative. His vital signs were checked and absent.

But the black man didn't incapacitate the cop by using the taser, did not take his gun, did not shoot both officers nor any innocent bystander.

The cop, both cops, bystanders were not under immediate or imminent threat of death or grievous bodily harm when the cop made that rash, very rash and bad decision to shoot that black man in the back from a distance of 8 - 10 feet and compounded his and their rash, bad decision and possible criminal decision making process by leaving that black man on the pavement for 2 minutes before attending to him and putting on latex gloves to pickup the shell casing thus obstructing justice.
If the suspect had tasered the cop and incapacitated him he could have taken his gun, no? This should go to a grand jury. And that Mayor who played judge and jury based on a videotape clip should be retired from political office. An utter disgrace.
