I think the police did a good job until the point they shot him.

Why shoot him???? If the two of them can’t handle him, let him go, call back up and arrest him with more police. It’s not like he going to get far and you can tail him.

It’s not easy handling drunk people and the dude could of been on some other shit too but if Your average bouncer/bartender can handle it the police officers should be able to handle it to without resorting to deadly force.

Officer fired less than 24 hours after shooting fleeing suspect in the back. Murder charges to follow? After being passed out in Wendy's drive through. Let him run away, arrest him tomorrow. Citizens torch the Wendy's.

I think that killing was totally justified. The officer had a duty to arrest that drunk driver and he was defending himself from significant threat.

If officer let this drunk driver go, only for the driver to find another car and run someone over, I say officer should bear responsibility for not doing his job which was to arrest the guy.

If officer received the taser discharge and not responded with his gun fire because he hoped tasers are not deadly or whatever, that must be an exception and not the rule for other officers to follow.

As a rule, you cannot allow civilians taser police without fear of being shot at. Eveybody and their dog would be tasering each other then.

I guess the Atlanta use of force policy states:

If black man runs away wait till he is 10 feet or further away from you before shooting him in the back and killing him?

No, let the drunk violent guy who just stole a taser from the police and shot it on the officer to go wonder the streets with that taser. It will be much safer fro everybody. I am pretty sure if he'd simply run away without taking the taser or shooting it, it will be a different story.

Brooks wasn't having a leisurely nap in the Wendy's parking lot until police just happened to come along to harass him, like some of you seem to think.

In fact he passed out right in the drive-thru lane while his car was still idling. Other cars had to drive around him, so customers called 911.

Cops at the scene dealt very patiently with him for 30 minutes.

He subsequently failed the sobriety test.

He then resisted arrest, vigorously. A significant struggle ensued during which Brooks gets ahold of Brosnan's Taser then stands up and punches Rolfe in the face.

Rolfe gives chase firing his Taser immediately (and twice more) before he moves it to his left hand in order to secure his firearm with his right hand. Seconds later Brooks turns and fires the taser at him. At which point Rolfe's taser flies out of his left hand and he fires his gun.


It remains to be seen whether this is a case of excessive deadly force or not but I have a feeling the mayor's impetuous rush to judgement, both words and actions, may implode in her face.

Either way a very sad and tragic ending to Rayshard Brooks life. Highly predictable though, based on his actions that would have resulted in the same outcome regardless of skin colour.

You must have missed the part where the man points a taser at the officer. That 8 - 10 feet gap that you're obsessed with closes quickly when you're running in the direction of someone that turns around pointing a taser at you.

I think the mayor made that decision to avoid rioting, looting, and destruction.
