Not sure you can call him a tough guy, his roles in French and Italian films were varied. He has two classics to his name, The French Connection and Seven Beauties. The WW II concentration camp scene he was in in the Lina Wurtmuller film is haunting. After he commits suicide by Gestapo, Pasqualino makes his pact to survive at all cost - even if it meant seducing the grotesque Commandant.

I thought he would be a bigger deal than he was. He was Jimmy Garner's nemesis in The Rockford files, was the star of David Cronenberg's Fast Company. Not sure why Clint Eastwood never used him in future films.
