I don't see the big deal.

Just leash your dog in the park. The dude is right to call her on it. All his points are valid.

She says that he was yelling at her but it's not evident on the video at all. Did he edit it? Who knows.

Did she totally overreact by calling the cops. Absolutely.

Should she be vilified and lose her job over this? not in my opinion.

I was more concerned by her treatment of her dog than anything else.
I wouldn’t want to work around anyone toxic enough to pull the race card over such a simple and legitimate complaint in a park, and calls the police wasting resources and a grave overreaction. Poor judgement all around and frankly not a good human being - although I suspect in her carefully crafted public image heretofore, she’s been a role model in race relations, equality, and goodwill.

I agree, she should not lose her job over this. In fact, it is not employer's business what the person is outside the job place: racist, fascist, homophobic, etc. As long as she is doing her job and behaves according to expectation in the workplace, it is all that should matter. What she should get, is to be charged with false 911 call, lying to the police during that call, and, possibly, assault attempt (as she was expecting that the men will get arrested or even hit by the police)

I've been to NYC many times and Central Park was and maybe still is not a safe place. Too many nasty incidents. Here one of the more famous ones.

"At 9 p.m. on April 19, 1989, a group of an estimated 30–32 teenagers who lived in East Harlem entered Manhattan's Central Park at an entrance in Harlem, near Central Park North.[4] Some of the group committed several attacks, assaults, and robberies against persons walking, biking, or jogging in the northernmost part of the park and near the reservoir, and victims began to report the incidents to police.[5] Within the North Woods, between 105th and 102nd streets, they were reported as attacking several bicyclists, hurling rocks at a cab, and attacking a pedestrian, whom they robbed of his food and beer, and left"

I think the following article is much more balanced.

"The incident began as Amy Cooper was spending time in Central Park’s Ramble with her dog, alone, and seemingly minding her own business. Christian Cooper too was spending a quiet morning bird watching in the same area, alone, minding his own business. That is until he noticed Amy’s dog was off-leash and running freely nearby. The area requires dogs to be on leashes, with signs posted indicating this rule. Christian took it upon himself to enforce it."

We could see the distress of the dog so as humans with feelings, we gravitate to that.

We don't know everything done before he started recording. And she lies right through her white ass when on the phone with the cops. I hate, simply hate, when women use sex and gender to play the victim card. Which is what she was doing for sure.

Now how much of that she would do with a white man in the same situation, I don't know. In this case it is hard to tell but there is a trend of white women calling cops on black people and this looks to be the same.

I don't think she should lose her job either.

Search videos of public freak-outs or dash cam road race. If everyone who acted out got fired, well we wouldn't have much of a work force.

Are you seriously bringing up the Central Park Jogger case from over 30 years ago? You could not have found something a little more recent? Or are you using this as your black kids are bad excuse?

As for enforcing the dog leash policy, I tell people all the time to leash their dogs. They tell me to mind my fucking business, I tell them they are irresponsible dog owners, they tell me to fuck off, I call them assholes, we walk away yelling insults back and forth. That is usually the way it works. I know this yet I will still tell anyone to leash their dog. Especially when I am walking my dogs, leashed, in the same area.

It puts the non leash dog walkers in a bad mood for the day. Mainly because they are called out and I don't back down. Some learn and now leash their dogs and some don't but they will as soon as they see me. They know they are wrong and no one likes being called out on it.

He has the right to protect himself and tell her to leash her dog. He is not in the wrong and making that implication upon him is wrong.

There's more people now than ever walking their dogs leash free in the parks who feel a sense of entitlement about it...and they are offended when you ask them to put a leash on. I politely asked one guy in a park when i was walking through it to put his dog on a leash as this was not a leash free park and he yelled "fuck you asshole! What are you gonna do about it? Is this your park or your property? No one else is saying anything...keep walking!!" I didn't want to escalate the issue and didn't have my phone so i walked in the other direction...otherwise i probably would have recorded it.

The other issue is when no one says anything then others say "well if he's doing it, i'm doing it too" until someone gets bitten and then they blame the dog. All she had to do was put a leash on. it wasn't hard.

But seriously, if the dog isn't aggressive or out of control, where's the harm in it? Sure it's the law, but there's also being a nice neighbour and putting up w stuff too.

In the Central Park case, I understand that the dog was scaring the birds, so the guy was there to do his thing and the dog was preventing his use of the park. So he was correct to ask the dog be leashed.

But if he was just walking past and the dog was playing off leash and he complained, I would have stared him down too.

Because it is not just the leashed dog you have to worry about. And I hate when unleashed dogs walk up to mine. They have been attacked before and don't like a lot of dogs until they meet them properly.

When an unleashed dog comes running up to mine, they get scared. That is not fair to my dogs at all. It is disrespectful entitlement. Plus plenty of people have dog phobias as well. Even having a dog walk past, it doesn't matter. If the dog is not leashed, it is not safe.

They should be the nice neighbour and leash the dog, not the other way around. I should not have to negate my right in order to seem "nice"

Exactly!

I always worry about when another dog goes after an unleashed dog. That unleashed dog is gone, running away and you will not catch him/her if they are being chased or attacked by another dog. It is safety for the unleashed dog as well. That is your control.

I have been attack three times while walking my dogs. If they were not harnessed and leashed, they would be dead. These were much bigger dogs who are attacking and I only had control because I had my dogs leashed. I was able to keep them behind me and me in front of the attacking dog. The attacking dog wants nothing to do with me, they want my furries. Being able to control my dogs with a leash saved them. People just don't get that.

The worst as the ones who feel they have such verbal control over their dog. They are all high and mighty about it. Not caring about the reactions of other dogs. They don't deserve to own dogs in my opinion.

Keep your dogs safe, keep them leashed.

Apparently, an unleashed dog killed a baby fox right here in The Beach.

=============================================================================================

"Central Park is generally safe for travelers, especially during daylight hours. Newly car-free, Central Park is now less dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists than it used to be, though nighttime can bring other dangerous elements into the park.Feb 11, 2019"

Maybe Central Park is less dangerous than it was in the 1990's (maybe yes, maybe no). However, I would not call it "safe". Ask your wife, GF, sister, daughter, etc. to walk alone in a secluded part of the park a few times and then ask her how "safe" she feels.

Key takeaway make sure to get it on video. And be careful about escalating and making false accusations. And karma can be a beast.
Nothing says Karma like 29 million views. And counting...

This could have easily gone sideways if the man wasn't filming and cops had arrived. You have any idea how hard it would be for him to defend himself or prove his innocence with the proof of that recording? She deserves to get fired. And the employer does have every right to fire her, it might not be a crime to be a racist, homophobic, etc but it probably goes against the companies policies.

Jessica, re read my post, the part which says if the unleashed dog "is not aggressive or out of control". Yes, that part.

And Darts, did I say anything about dogs running wild and hunting down baby animals either?...... I'll leave you to figure that one out and discuss it w Jessica.....

Yep, she should have just walked away or tell him to F off and walk away. She felt threatened by the guy because she was alone in a secluded area of the park. Well why the hell did you choose that area in the first place if not to intentionally let your dog run free. The way the dog is behaving shows that the dog is not well trained. Should have apologize and walk away. Typical entitlement mentality. She pull the harassment by a black person card to play the whole power game she thinks she is entitled to as a white female. Complete moron and she deserve all the consequences.

I agree that a park that requires you to leash your dog should have ALL dogs on leash. Its law. Follow it.

On the other hand, you took a chance on doing the right thing. It could have been your last. In todays society, you dont know who is willing to take the extra step to either hurt you badly or kill you.

Now, because you didnt have your cell phone handy, you put your head down in shame after being called out and not minding your own business. Thats very coward of you to do. Who made you police man and take the law into your own hands?? I understand you thought you were doing the right thing but very risky.

You want to call someone out regardless of the outcome and because you didnt get to have a cell phone to back your ass up, .....................you walked away.

Todays society expects you to back your words up. Too many UFC wanna be's out there that have a need to knock someone out. Please consider yourself lucky and unless you can cash that cheque, mind your own business. Its not worth dying over. If it bothered you enough, call police or by law. Its the safest thing. The world doesnt need another social hero.

There are words for people who start shit and walk away because like your story, had no cell phone. I'll leave those words up to your imagination.

Just...call....the police. They get paid to put up with people like the guy who threatened you. You sir, are very lucky. Good thing you walked away.

Karen should definitely lose her job. Firstly, she should endure whatever the man would have, if there was no video to refute her claims (there usually isn't) and the cops showed up. Ditto for domestic abuse liars, rape liars, and so on. If he would have had to go thru the system in any way, then she should. The only way to ensure equality is for everyone to face the same repercussions for crimes - including false accusations of them.

Karen puts a black eye on the company she works for, which results in lost business. Termination is not only recommended but essentially required. I suspect her actions inside the company reflect her personal racism which she has kept hidden from scrutiny up to now.

Someone who lies so blatantly without any regard for the safety of others, and is so unreasonable about a simple request when she knows she is in the wrong, is the same type of person that makes false rape and abuse accusations when they don't get their way in the corporate world. Women like Karen are a threat to all men. The power, privilege, and prestige she holds comes with great responsibility in a civil society.

You're fired!

P.S. She's typical of self-described animal lovers in one regard - she loves them more than she loves humans, which is perverse and disgusting. Real animal lovers know the difference and appreciate their role.
