"You dont need a AR-15 to bring down a deer", he said after the killings in Nova Scotia

I thought they were illegal. Compare the quick ban to the USA.

Anybody think assault rifles should be legal?

Good for him but why did he not ban them as soon as he got in?

Same thing with Covid. Science saw it coming while the goverment fiddled.

Trudeau is a reactive leader not proactive

Except the recent mass shootings in Canada were conducted with hand guns, illegally obtained from the US.

So, this ban is simply grandstanding.

They have a minority Gov right now, and this ban has no support from Conservatives, and even has a mixed reaction from many NDP MPs.
But in true Justin fashion, he announces it like it is a done deal already, as if he still has a majority gov.

The AR-15 couldn't be used for hunting deer anyway as it was already deemed restricted, meaning it's only usage was limited to gun ranges ie. paper target shooting only. If nothing else it highlights how little JT actually knows about the current gun laws in Canada (and joe public for that matter).

Assault rifles (full auto) have been illegal since the 70's. What JT is doing here is going after 'assault style' weapons (5 round limit and one round per trigger pull) - roughly 1500 styles of them, some restricted (gun ranges only) and some non-restricted (usable for hunting). The assault style long guns on that list, more or less are modular style facsimiles of assault rifles so are easy low hanging fruit for the government to show they are serious about gun crime, at least to the low information, guns are evil, voter. In the end it accomplishes sweet fuck all. We don't have the mass shooting issue in Canada that the States does due to more rigorous gun licensing requirements and the element in society comprising the majority of our gun violence are street thugs who are using hand guns on each other and not 'assault style' guns. An AR15 isn't going to fit down their pants.

Meaningful efforts to combat gun crime would have required JT to come up with community outreach programs to tackle gang violence and increased border enforcement to deal with smuggling (and that includes plugging the biggest holes - the reserves ex Kahnawake, Akwesasne etc...)

This is the equivalent of banning every make and model of a car used by drunk driver where someone died.

Assault rifles are kinda cool, but why do we need them?

Mind you with the coming civil war in the USA I can see why nobody there wants to give up their guns...

And what if Trump, after getting re-elected, gets imperialistic ambitions and decides to invade and annex Canada?

You don't. That's why they have been illegal since the 1970's. Along with machine guns etc... Civilians don't need automatic weapons. JT is banning a bunch of magazine fed, one trigger pull, one bullet rifles that already had to have round limits (5) on the magazines. The rifles just happen to look like their full automatic counterparts.

Correct . All guns were smuggled into Canada . I doubt this will pass . He's only grandstanding . He says that you don't need an AR-15 to hunt with . Well I got news for him . You could never hunt with that gun anyways . You were only allowed to shoot it at a registered gun club . Target practice .

There are a few million AR-15's in Canada . He's thinking of a buy back . Those guns go for at least $1000 a piece .

Does everybody feel safer now . Really what a fucking idiot . Gangs in TO don't even use those guns . It's hard to hide them .

You are correct . Conservatives want nothing to do with this .Many NDP are from out west and the country . They will get an earful from their constituents .

Guns were smuggled into Canada . So much for border protection . Go after the law bidding gun owners . That will make the country safer . He doesn't understand that gun owners are the ones that follow the laws of the land . They have to or they get their guns taken away . It's the people who don't give shit that cause problems . You have to go through a firearms course and get checked by the RCMP before you are allowed to purchase any gun or ammunition .

This piece of shit broke all of the laws .

I think I'll take a walk along the beach tonight . I feel much safer now doing that . LOL

These guns should never have been allowed into Canada. They have no other purpose than to kill people.

Donate them to Americans.

You can get a hunting rifle that holds 5 rounds . That's what you are allowed in an AR-15 . We are not allowed to have magazines that hold more than 5 bullets. So what the heck is he talking about . The AR-15 looks mean and nasty . That's it . it's the same one shot per trigger pull as any hunting rifle .

Assault rifle my ass . It's a semi auto rifle . Nothing else .

The problem in the States is that they have large capacity magazines . We don't have that here . Even the ones that look like they will hold more than 5 bullets are pinned to only hold 5 .

Agreed he is reactive, very soft and concerned about image.

I absolutely disagree in banning these assault riffles and firearms.

The black market can easily supply this shit to the criminals. And what now we are disadvantaged to protect ourselves and waiting for Castro Junior to get public approval to protect us. Imagine if the situation was worse with the pandemic, we ran out of food and people started looting homes and shit. You think the police or government would protect everyone, fuck no, they would be busy protecting their own families and interests. Pls. Should never take this away from competent, trained, individuals.

Idiots should never have been born . Most of these guns are manufactured in Canada . Goes to show how much you know which is fuck all .

You have no problem when it comes to people dying of the virus yet for some reason you have an opinion on guns .

This is pretty much correct. All this is just window dressing by JT.

FTR you can buy hunting rifles that are just as powerful as any assault rifle
So you do not need them. Than you for clearing that up.

He's appealing to the ideological base of the Liberal party and the fiasco in Nova Scotia has given his order in council some theater behind it. He's playing politics. He no longer has to worry about how to bring in the ban, he can appeal to joe publics emotions and the public will feel the intrusion will be justified. It's only those evil gun owners right? Who cares about them? JT now has the opportunity for some serious grandstanding. Watch him milk the fuck out of this. For him this is a break from day-to-day COVID. It's an easy win for him.

Who says that we don't need them . Who are you to say what we can purchase . Are you forgetting about RIGHTS now . Thousands of people enjoy going to gun clubs every year and shooting those guns in a safe manner . Ever been to a gun club .

I don't need booze or dope . I say let's get rid of those things . The roads will be safer and women will stop get a beating from their drunken husbands .

Naww, he's more likely to cede you to Russia. Your point still stands though.

There's more likely to be a civil war in Canada when the western provinces separate to form an authentic and free New Canada.

Let`s not forget the 600 million bucks it will take to buy back these evil looking guns. We`re already spending over 80 million on border security to stop smuggled guns, how`s that going? Take a look at the Gov`t. StatsCan webpage to see what`s really going with gun deaths in Canada. From 2000 to 2016 there were 13168 gun deaths in Canada,9919 were suicides. From 2014 to 2018 handguns killed 623, rifles and shotguns 324, in the "other" category it was 18, non specific about what they were. I believe no one in Canada has been killed with an AR 15, the exception is a person having a finger shot off by one in a kidnapping in BC some years ago. How in the hell did buffoons like Trudeau and Bill Blair ever get the positions they have. Maybe we do get the government we deserve. Blair handled that G 20 thing real well too. It looks like Trudeau will never miss the opportunity to take advantage of a crisis, first the virus(trying to get unlimited taxation and spending until 2022) and then Nova Scotia, for some sarcasm how about banning "assault vans" after the Yonge St. shitbag killed 10. What is happening with our country?
