Lets make this a pole on how you think this will end. Vote either vaccine, treatment's (no actual vaccine), nature will run it's course(virus will fade out)

Got to engage in this discussion with someone a few days ago who's lifes work is in this field. Stopped over to mom's house after work to download Zoom & set it up on her computer so she could virtually attend her church bible study. Ended up staying for din & watched some tv till the bible stuff ended. At the end there was a Q&A with a retired professor of infectious disease that's part of the bible study. He's well respected & his home office is riddled with accolades of his acheivements.

A few of the questions pertained to vaccines & how fast. One of the responses was there's been one sitting at a lab in Texas for almost five years now waiting on human trials but no funding! He went on to explain when the the predecessor disease SARS stopped abruptly in 2004 the gov & other agencies around the world basically phased out funding for it. Everyone in the field new another form of human corona virus would raise it's ugly head again they just didn't know how long he said. Mers was next in 2012, higher fatality rate than Sars Cov 1 & Sars Cov 2 x 2 in his words, but again with such a small death toll (less than 1000), the fact it didn't spread too far & way less infectious, not a lot of money was thrown at it either. He said basically every government never looked at a corona vaccine with the adage an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure until now. And now he said it's too late the horse already left the gate! Trillions of dollars lost in the economic shut down & 100+ companies/institutions rushing through trials (some skipping pre clinical) to get something to the market. He's optimistic with the worldwide collaboration that a vaccine will be made available, but like many of his peers not sure of the long term effectiveness or side effects with such short trials. Which he said can be as bad as the virus itself.

He went on to say this one is unique in many ways, from tricking healthy peoples immune systems to go bonkers & ending up almost lifeless on a respirator, to having little to no effect on children, some studies showing healthy adults between the age of 18-mid 50's are almost 90% asymtomatic, to the blood clotting issue's that are causing amptuee's, to ravaging otherwise healthy adults organs for no apparent reason etc. His closing words it's not your typical virus...treat it with respect

As much as i'm not a fan of lockdowns he said without a vaccine until next year at the earliest your either in or out with this it knows no boundries. When asked about the Nordic model in his words it's the biggest known clinical trial 1 in history! Not enough solid data yet he said to prove or disprove recovery guarantees immunity. If it does they will be out of the woods a lot sooner & won't have the worries of what's coming this fall & beyond he concluded.

I have no interest in partaking in any bible studies but having a Q&A with this guy is like having your own Dr. Fauci to answer your questions. And as much as he had to dumb down his response's he seemed to enjoy answering most of the questions

I believe that a medical treatment (drug/drug cocktail) to ameliorate the symptoms will be discovered first. Something that either knocks it down at the first symptom and/or something to knock down the cytokine storm near the end. Much easier and faster to experiment with existing drugs.

Vaccines take a long time to figure out, then test and then verify. And because it takes so long to run out each stage of the bilogy and testing it could be years. And that is even IF the virus can be vaccinated against. Still no vaccine for the common cold or cold sores (herpes) for that matter.

There won't be a vaccine unless China gives up essential information. SARS, which is a corona virus, faded out in a few months. COVID may do the same, contrary to what Dr. Fauci has stated.

All the information about it's genome & sequence have been available for months, nothing China can add to it & they have dozens of companies working on the vaccine. The company that makes an effective vaccine for this will have a big place in history, there's a lot of prestige that comes with this & every country would like that accolade & our now pumping huge amounts of money into these companies trials.

Sars & Mers supposedly didn't spread like this, & unless there's immunity to it or a vaccine he said it's very unlikely to go away anytime soon. When someone asked him a biblical related question about this, he kind of went off topic & said basically it's part of nature, every species has outbreaks & disease to control it's population...i didn't like the sound of that

How do you suggest we get immunity if there is no vaccine and we have to stay locked up indoors for months...?

Agreed, SARS and MERS where far less contagious but as a % more deadly.

I'm also hoping for a Hep-C vaccine, maybe AIDS. Or even an effective flue shot that causes no side effects.

It's over my head Bebe's, but like every other countries epidemiologist's I think they're waiting on more data from Sweden's clinical trial 1 & updates on vaccines. If I was PM I would have had every area not effected or with very minimal numbers back to work already. This pussy footing around with an invisable enemy is sinking are ship at a pregnant pace. Aside from Toronto, Montreal, some outlying cities & LTCH the numbers are miniscule, no reason to punish those people get those economy's moving ffs. Some pretty naive people on here that think just because it's pandemic (very mild one at present) the world economy can afford to shut down, last time the economy shut down like this was the great depression. We sure as fack don't want to go through that again, so lobby your leaders to make plans, policies & dates to get this economy moving again is my advice

Why do we need an immune system?
Awesome question.

Nobody would have allergies if we didn't have an immune system. But then big pharma wouldn't be able to sell us all those allergy medications. The immune system must be a plot by big pharma to keep up our spending.

Smallhatchets level of awareness is profound

There was no vaccine for SARS and we're fine.

Why do we need to live in a vaccine world?

People walk around spreading HERPES and we still go around living our lives.

A better question is, Why do we need an immune system?

Awesome reply!

Finally someone other than smallhatchet can see what is really behind so many things that most of us miss.

What on earth are you doing going over to your mom's house? Justin says that is a big no-no. Now go home and stay there until Trudeau says that is is okay for you to come out. And no supper for you either you bad boy.

Refreshing poll (and it would theoretically skew in favor based on the board's demographics). It seems there are plenty of realists on here which is terrific!
