My mother had her uterus taken out after giving birth to my youngest brother. And this was because of suspicious cells
That were found. The Doc. Knew that this would affect her sex drive, so he put her on a hormonal treatments. And she was fine after that. But my understanding is, it may cause cancer. I'm not sure if this is true or not. Because she was fine for years.

That I don't know, I'm not a doctor, but with all things there are pros and cons.

Oh that helps ? What I'm saying is, my mom kept her sex drive and there weren't any side effects !
But somehow antidepressants took the lead. God damn pharma !!!

So let me get this straight.

She had suspicious cell growth (possibly cancerous) in her uterus so they removed it. I'm guessing they didn't do a biopsy, so may have unnecessarily removed it, which I'm told a lot of past hysterectomies were. Then her doctor put her on HRT, which could have lead to cancer but luckily didn't, even though that is why they removed her uterus in the first place, to avoid cancer, so that she wouldn't lose her libido.

Assuming they had antidepressants when this occurred, was your mother given the option of taking them to treat her possible post hysterectomy depression, which may lead to lowered libido, just as a hysterectomy without hormonal treatment most likely would vs taking HRT that could lead to cancer but would save her libido?

Like I said, pros and cons to everything.

While not a perfect solution by any means, as a woman I'd be more willing to risk losing my libido taking antidepressants vs possibly dying from cancer taking HRT, but that's me.

Here's why a lot of doctors stopped prescribing HRT. https://familydoctor.org/hormone-replacement-therapy/

There are a bunch of different classes of antidepressants and they work differently and therefore will have different side effects. As Sophia says, just because a medication can cause a side effect in SOME people it doesn’t mean it will in all. Also keep in mind for some people, loss of sex drive is a major symptom of depression, so for some, antidepressants will improve sex drive. My personal experience with ssri, and snri’s was I did not have any gut side effects, insomnia, weight gain, but did have an effect on my ability to orgasm - it was delayed (not always, but sometimes it took a hell of a long time, which is a problem). I tried many types (5) of antidepressant and really only one was a good fit, it helped and really did not have much in the way of side effects. Part of how antidepressants are chosen is the side effect profile, so if you are going to be prescribed them, let your doctor know if certain potential side effect are very important to avoid for you as an individual. For me a good antidepressant and an excellent psychiatrist helped pull me out of a very deep hole.

You, losing your libido ?? I doult that very much !!!! Don't forget these antidepressants fuck with our conscious self.
My daughter wants out, and I explained to her about weening. So when she goes cold turkey she freaks out. And my
Other question is why are these pills being offered to children of this age. She was 15 when she was prescribed these
Drugs. WTF !!! But it's ok for the pharma and the fucken docs that are following the lead. Really I'm pissed off.

It's a simple question and I want the women to chime in as well !
I've been seeing a young lady for about 8 months now and for the most
Part every one of our encounters has been incredible I mean like fucken wow.
All of a sudden she tells me she just got onto antidepressants and I said to myself
Ok here we go again. And the reason why I'm bring this up I do believe this alone was
The cause of my separation with my wife. Gentleman the labito just dives, no matter
What you do. I changes a woman sexual needs. It's interesting because, this is the medicine
Of choice with women with hormonal issues. Getting back to this one woman 22 years old I
Might add. Her libido is gone. Remember now she is 22. Any comments on this supject or experiences ?
Maybe it’s her depression causing low libido. Maybe it’s your relationship. Maybe you should be supportive.
Depression is a serious issue and obviously you’re no help.
I hope she finds the help she needs. Antidepressant meds alone are not a cure, not even treatment unless accompanied by medical support, therapy and counselling. Antidepressant meds, SSRI’s and such, at first, cause drowsiness and low motivation, the dose needs to be increased slowly, till the right level is attained. And that will take 2-3 months from starting them.

You don't know squat, with my daughter all I know is that her mother approved
The medication for her. And she did tell her, don't tell your father. But that's besides
The point. I was with my ex for almost 20 years. She's been on these fucked up drugs
For like 15 years or more. I don't even recognize the woman I fell in love with. It just
Fucks up your brain. Sorry I'm getting carried away.

It is believed that there's a genetic component (40%) or predisposition to depression (those with parents or siblings with depression are 3 times as likely to have the condition), usually triggered by environmental events (60%), making it situational as well. I think in this case the common denominator may be the problem.

Sad and scary to read that so many people are on mind altering medication. Can you become addicted to antidepressants, like experience an actual withdrawal if you’ve been taking them for a long time and stop cold turkey?

Of course you can.

End of the day they are just very powerful, addictive, drugs that don’t solve anything - they just numb the pain.

These people unfortunately are drug addicts, conned by our own health system, and think because it was “prescribed” that it’s somehow better than street drugs.

But hey, some people in society are just weaker than others. Cest la vie

Horseshit.

Are antidepressants overprescribed? For sure. Are effective psychological therapies too difficult to access? Definitely. Do antidepressants have side effects and does their use need to be supervised by a doctor? Definitely.

But depression is not weakness. It’s an illness with a biological basis. Stigma like yours kills people.

I have a degree in fuckology, I don't think any female loses her libido. They just get tired of them same old cock like we do pussy. Put a strange 7 inch in front of her see how quickly she's slurping on it.

You’re a prick, a person close to you going through a tough time in her life and the only things you’re worried about is drop in her sex drive!!! Smh
No wonder all the women in your life ended up being on some sort of antidepressant.

I agree. You'd see if she (read: you) had real problems if she was looking for strange every encounter.

Antidepressants aren't addictive (https://www.addictioncenter.com/stimulants/antidepressants/) in the same way painkillers like oxytocin are, that numb the pain and they aren't happy pills, which many wrongfully believe and is why you don't see them on the black market like the aforementioned or other prescription drugs.

Thank you for sharing your experience massman. It takes a strong person to do so, especially here!

I think I read that 19% of adults are on antidepressants. If that's true, there are a lot of very sick sad people out there.

Depression is largely a first world problem, no?

Yes sir, you have hit on the head, but keep in mind these drugs are given without prior testing on the effects.
No sir, no time for that, all they do is prescribe a different antimed. Do you know how many suicides have been
Connectected to young people who simply stopped taking some of these drugs. Yet the FDA have not addressed
This. We all go through depressions especially in our years of puberty, big change in our hormones and habits.
God knows I went through it. But some of us make it through with good support and without this altering mind drug.
What I'm saying is that this drug is being perscribed like aspirin. With no testing. When I speak to my ex wife today
She is not at all the same person I knew way back when, this women was viberent sexual and more understanding
Than she is today. Keep in mind she's been on these drugs for 17 years. And the dose goes up every year.

Thanks Sophia. (And was oxytocin a typo, or Freudian slip??;)).

It is worth mentioning that we are realizing that antidepressants can have withdrawal symptoms, and so if after a long time of use, they are going to be stopped, they usually should be weaned. And a good doctor will include this possible side effect in any discussion of starting these meds.

Yes it definitely runs In The family, both my sisters and I have had bouts with severe depression.
On course there’s more problems, we come for a long long line of Irish Drunks!
I may have stopped the progression. I’m clean long time and my daughter is clean. Recovery works!!
