Saw this coming, but its still so interesting to see how many of these businesses run on such a thin margin that they don't even have a cash reserve to last some months. 1 month in and were starting to see some businesses drown forever.
Much has to do with the high rents. As the months go by with no income, lost stock food-wise, yet being told they must pay the lease, taking on further debt as a $40,000.00 loan doesn't cut it. It doesn't surprise me at all.

I agree rents are too high . In the real world shops and restaurants close all the time . Sooner or later another one takes their place . If landlords don't give the tenants a brake than they will leave . The store front or building will now be empty . What does the landlord get . NOTHING . No income coming in . Who's gonna want to start a business now these days .

Rents are commensurate with the cost of owning a property. The property taxes on commercial properties are insanely high.

Restaurants have always run on thin margins. It's well known for that particular industry. It's also a lot of work, I'm surprised that people open restaurants in the first place, but not surprised that they're going out of business in an environment like this.

Once suicides outpace COVID-19 deaths the lockdown will end. Primarily because of the public outcry. Just imagine losing your entire life’s work, not having hope of better future and not being able to provide for your family? Men don’t take it well when they are zeroed out. There is going to be a bloodbath of suicides of men between 30 and 65. The men under 30 are too busy jizzing in their parents basement watching porn to realize the world is collapsing.

While making $2,000 a month LOL

No shocker why they don't want to return to work anytime soon.

Bars closing forever? Good riddance. May 100% of them close & never reopen.

Ditto for liquor stores, airlines, motor vehicle plants & other many businesses that lead to pollution, ill health & death.

Restaurants serving greasy food that is detrimental to human beings? RIP for eternity, never to be seen again.

You live or die by cash flow. After four(more or less) thousand years of commerce on this planet, you would think people would learn.

That is how stupid people are!

That is how stupid the damn government is!

Small business is the damn backbone of the Canadian economy (one of them at least) and here we are.

Too damn tired of arguing the same thing over and over again.

Canada is a nice country, but it is dumb.

What the government should have done was pay the wages of the workers like they are doing in the UK, 75% of the wages of the workers paid by the state now, until further notice. Then give the business owners grants or loans to ride out this storm. Doing it that way, protect jobs, it protects capital (the equity built up in the business). Since the bailout money is coming out in buckets, do the right thing for everyone involved. Small business is the damn backbone of the Canadian economy. Fucking ingrates. Do not like thinking about it. Truly annoying.

In this country, like who knows what is going on?

Just watch, Toronto City Hall will try to raise taxes across the board by 15% to 25% because of revenue shortfalls. They could go fuck themselves. Tory is the worst mayor ever!

How is he going to raise taxes when he doesn't even have a clue what will be the extent of the impact of the shutdown on the rate payers? What did Tory do to mitigate the impact on the city's finances? Did he cut the expenses, for example? Did I miss the announcement of the reduction in pay for the civil service for the duration of the crisis? I can see that the TPS' traffic division is going at 100% with maybe 20% of traffic moving through the city. This is a dire situation, so why no "Rae's days"? The wholesale shutdown was a mistake, as I said weeks ago, and the honest 20/20, after this is over, will confirm it 100% Of that I have no doubt.

If they were to lift the lockdown to-day, how many customers will return to the bars/restaurants and what happens if the owner and/or staff get infected and can't work because they are sick or dead?

Nothing will be busy at all for many months to come. A self imposed lockdown will continue but other business should return if everyone can be masked, that includes offices.

Can't be happy without a bottle in your mouth?

What's dreary about saving lives from early deaths, ill health & the suffering that goes with it? Are you pro suffering & death? That sounds dreary.

I enjoyed posting that. Have fun.

You should walk off into the wilderness and live off the land, as apparently you don`t require anything that was transported by road or air.

Going to a bar with friends in not about getting an alcohol fix, as anyone can drink alcohol at home.
It is about socializing and enjoying life, something that you can`t seem to comprehend.

Just because you have never had a date to take to a restaurant, a girlfriend to fly with for a vacation, or a car to drive, doesn`t mean everybody should be forced to live such a pathetic life.

Some of life`s pleasures are not conducive to simply trying to exist for as long as possible.

As Bon Jovi said, "I ain`t gonna live forever, I just want to live while I`m alive".

Life is meant to be lived so perhaps you should try to live it up a little before it is too late, although it seems like it is already is too late for you.

And telling tall tales about our sexual, financial and sports exploits. LOL!

Seriously, I can skip "pub night" for a month, several months or even a year if it meant saving people from getting sick or dying.
