You have said that JP was the most famous academic of our time/generation. You freely give that accolade to a youtube celebrity psychologist, if that is not worshipping him then what is?
Dr. Drew is a media personality going all the way back to his work in radio in the 80s. Dr. Dre is a life-long music producer and rapper also launching his career in the 80s.

I don't know much about JP but I do know that he is a clinician, university professor, author, and scholar. His entire life until a few years ago did not include any media nor did he invite media attention. The media rushed to cover him mostly to condemn his views on compelled speech but because his views are common sense, such attention made him popular and largely supported by the general public (despite of and in defiance of all the bashing and misrepresentations of him by the mainstream media). To call him a 'youtube celebrity psychologist' is not only insincere but demonstrates your voluntary unfamiliarity with him.

I'm happy that he capitalized on the notoriety that was created to destroy him, because it gave him the opportunity to debate his views in TV broadcasts and in front of live audiences, and sell a book that increased his net worth and the minds of his readers. If I called him the most famous academic of our generation it's because there is a shortlist of others that can sell 3 million copies of their books and sell out lectures in multiple countries, routinely get invited to debate high-profile hostile TV hosts and their guests and outshine them.

Neil Degrasse Tyson

Astrophysicist, not a bird science like psychology. Has published academic astrophysics papers and done real research. He has 20 honorary doctorates. So as an academic he is about an order of magnitude greater than JP.

When it comes to being famous; He had made about 24 dozen tv and movie appearances as himself, last time I saw him on youtube he was on the show Colbert hosts, he has published 16 books. In terms of being famous, it is close an order of magnitude greater than JP.

JP would not make it into a list of the 100 most famous academics of our generation.

Won't take anything away from Mr.Tyson. the man is a genius for sure.

But the fact that Peterson has sold over 3 million copies of his second book is no small feat and says quite a bit about his ability to resonate with common pilgrim. I wouldn't be so sure about his fame being inferior to anyone right now in academia.

Selling 3 million copies is indeed a feat. I can only find the stats on Tysons 2017 book, it sold more than 1 million copies.

Lets just drop this and get on with the coronavirus apocalypse discussion.

Let's back up for a second. First I think you misquoted me. I believe my original comment (which would have been posted some time last year) stated that JP is one of the most popular intellectuals of our generation. I think this is separate from a scientist and commentator like Neil, who is brilliant and does a great job in his own right. For example, I don't think Neil and Christopher Hitchens are in the same categories, because the former's focus is on scientific understanding while the latter is a social critic of culture, politics, and ideology.

Second, you can downplay his academic contributions and popularity all you want. We all know you're doing so simply because you dislike him.

Merkel Expects 60-70% Of Germans To Be Infected With Coronavirus

Wed, 03/11/2020 - 06:00

Authored by Paul Joseph Watson via Summit News,

Angela Merkel says she expects around 60-70 per cent of Germans will be infected with the coronavirus, which equates to about 53 million people.

Reportedly, the German Parliament fell completely silent when Merkel stated the number.

News outlet Bild reported the German Chancellor’s comments, which echoed numbers forecast by Berlin virologist Christian Drosten, who added that such a total could take 2 years or longer to reach.

Given the fact that coronavirus has a mortality rate of around 1 per cent, this could equate to over half a million deaths, although new methods of fighting the virus could reduce this number.

The World Health Organization’s director general, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus claimed that the death rate was higher at 3.4 per cent, although this has been disputed.

Germany, which has recorded 1,565 coronavirus cases and two deaths so far, has yet to impose the kind of quarantine measures seen in Italy, where the entire country has been placed on lockdown.

.
German health authorities have said that people should avoid attending concerts, clubs or football games to limit the spread of the illness.

I'm a little nervous but not really scared. I think my immune system is pretty strong right now.

But I am eating more immune boosting foods - lots of orange juice, dark leafy greens, garlic, blueberries and strawberries, homemade chicken soup, shiitake mushrooms. TONS of ginger (ginger root, not the powder). Also take vitamin D3, vitamin C, and zinc. But I do this every winter anyway so I haven't changed much.

Don't forget Iron supplements.

Even mild iron-deficiency anemia can reduce our ability to produce Red Blood Cells, important if you ever do get sick.

I am not scared at all, but that said, I am not an old timer like many guys in this "hobby"

If I were a "silver fox" or whatever you want to call someone over 60; I would certainly reduce my exposure, or in other words, avoid the kind of physical contact a sex rendezvous brings; too risky for old people, at least until this is over

Not over 60, but I am avoiding hobbying until this shit sorts itself out.

Imaging having to tell Public Health that your history includes visiting SP's or MPA's , when and where. It would be similar to contracting AIDS.

Not down for that

Kind of. I’m postponing my upcoming visit because I don’t think air travel is the best idea right now. Not scared of gettin the virus exactly, more scared of getting quarantined on an airplane or being away from home when a travel ban comes down. Also sad about the fall out... cancelations of social activities, sports, public celebrations etc. Not to mention scared of people panic buying and depleting everything in the stores.
