Are the Leaafs like a hot escort?

Following the Leafs and their aspirations to the playoffs is like visiting a super attractive escort that leaves you lightly disappointed. The Leafs have lots of shiny parts that hold forth great promise but at point of success deliver a disappointing performance leaving you unfulfilled, slightly disappointed and just short of success.

On a visit to an escort the door opens and if anything the lady is more attractive than we hoped for. Great hair, perfect body, and a traffic stopping smile. But as the action heats up there is not quite the connection that we hoped for and the DFK and oral whilst nice, do not seem fully engaged, rather more perfunctory. Leaving you with the feeling that the experience falls just short of great.

The Leafs and the hot escort, lots of promise but leaving us wanting more.

The leafs are showing what ovi said earlier in the year about them, something like I hope they figure it out. Took him over 10 years to. Veteran teams are still the ones winning cups. I still think they're 2 plus years away. 22 or 23 before they're legit contenders.

One cup is expected with this group, this year is about progressing in the playoffs. Crosby and Malkin did it young but their skill was off the charts.

If the salary cap does go up due to Las Vegas bookmakers kicking in and the Leafs make a serious bid for Dustin Byfuglien - I might be interested again.

As of now I'm indifferent.

Are you saying that like an escort, the Leafs are trying to lure us into a deep, wide and dark hole.

The leafs have a solid foundation in Tavares , Matthews , Marner , Reilly and Andersen ,. A fast offense team .
Looks like the coach has a good handle on the team but my opinion is they are to soft for a 4 round playoff run .
Would really love to see them make a big time trade for a top notch defensemen ,,
Nylander’s stock will never be higher than right now would love to see him go honestly .

Would we get a better return if we threw in Barrie? Or would it be worse?

I'd say yes, as a number of them are likely to get fucked in the ass big time at the trade deadline given what the leafs have paid them, and the associated high expectations for service mileage that typically come with the higher pay rate.

Kinda hard to think a team would let go a solid defender and take Barrie that is a free agent ? But possibly a team that is loaded with stay at home de men but they may be short a power play quarterback , who do you guys think we could get for
Nylander/Kapanen and Barrie ? I mean we are gonna lose Barrie anyways and we are offensive heavy .

You might take a run at TJ Oshie, Joe Pavelski, or Jordan Eberle if you want some veteran, playoff experience, and some scoring punch. Maybe one of them for Nylander, a prospect and/or a 2nd rounder.

It's always been the M.O. of the Toronto Maple Leafs to string their fan base along with:

~ Rhetoric and Polemic on a whole new level of mendacity

~ reminders of a long faded past memories

~ excellent and very calculated public relations activities (visits to children's hospitals, practices in public squares, riding the subway) to gain public favour and distract from reality

~ self proclamation as "one of the teams with the greatest of traditions" (No MVP's, Point Leaders or Championships for 52 years)

~ a pathological fear of having another NHL team in the GTA, even as close as Hamilton

Everyone sees it except the die-hard TML fans who blindly hope there will be a miracle within "the next five years". I've been hearing this phrase for 40 years.

Coffee always smells good but only when you wake up.

35 T.J. Oshie~15 team No Trade List (are the Maple Leafs on it?)
33 Joe Pavelski~Full No Movement Clause
29 Jordan Eberle~Full No Trade Clause

Do go on though, why would the Maple Leafs trade a 23 year old who is experiencing a breakout season for any of those players?

I would agree with your OVI analogy. The Caps can't get by the Pens in the playoffs. The Leafs can't get by Boston in the playoffs. The Leafs core is 22-23 years old, but I think it will take another 4-5 years for them to figure it out.

Guys wave their no-trade, no-movement clauses all the time, for reasons that are known only to them. You won't know until you try. Besides, everyone knows you're gonna have to give up something of quality and unfortunately Nylander is still, regardless of his so called 'break out' year, too far down the ladder. You gonna trade Matthews, Marner, Rielly, Andersen or Tavares instead? Got anything attractive on the ladder below Nylander aside from Kapanen and Hyman? Not really. Sucks but he seems the one who could net you the most 'right now' value if you can pull off the right deal. The biggest issue you have is that you can't keep everyone and still ice a competitive team that can go deep in the playoffs and satisfy an increasingly impatient fan base.

I feel the leafs are already loaded with offence, we need solid defence for the next few years while we have Matthews signed . Imho this year is pretty much done they don’t look to me like they could go deep even if they sneak in ( now anything can always happen once you get into the tournament ) look at the blues last year !! Would love to see them make a solid trade and grab a good strong defenceman with term on his deal

Matthews will be an UFA in 4 years.

Marner will be an UFA in 5 years.

Leafs have to win the Cup before they become UFA's or the whole process starts all over again (another 5 year plan?).

Oh dear!

Oh dear!

Or, here's a thought, the Maple Leafs sign their players before they become UFA, or when they become UFA.
Crazy idea, I know.

The Leafs did that already when Matthews and Marner were RFA's. Paid them UFA money while they were still RFA's. Where has that gotten the Leafs so far? How much more money will Matthews and Marner want in 4 or 5 years or sooner.

Shouldn't you be off somewhere cheering for the Golden Gate Warriors?
