Well deserved Larry Walker. Jeter is lucky to be going in with him 
There are no other obvious candidates next year so does this open the door for Bonds and Clemens? Is it possible no one goes in next year?

Betting on games in which you are managing (regardless of who you bet on) is "showing respect for the game"? I think that would be a minority opinion even in spite of how hard he played. He disrespected the game by betting.
I don't agree with the selection.
His hitting stats go through the roof when he goes to Colorado.
Was a five tool guy, yes. Was a very good player, yes. Was a all time great, no.
Of course Harold Baines is now in there. So maybe the standards are dropping.

That argument fails when you see that there are a number of years, including his MVP season that his stats were better in away games.

Walker, who will have his No. 33 retired by the Rockies this coming season, was a career .313 hitter, though that number includes 10 seasons at hitter-friendly Coors Field. But he still had solid numbers on the road, including an .865 on-base plus slugging percentage that’s higher than the total OPS of some current Hall of Famers — George Brett, Tony Gwynn, Reggie Jackson and Roberto Clemente included.
Put up all his stats for the years he's a Rockie then. His home vs away.

You are cherry picking the OPS score. Which is just one stat. Do you really in all your conscious think he was better player than Roberto Clemente? Come on now.

In his MVP year he hit .366 with 49 HRs, 130 RBIs. But his numbers were better on the road. In 78 games at Coors Field he had an OPS of 1.169 while in 75 road games, it was 1.176.
Compared to Jeter, Walker holds a career edge in WAR (72.7 vs. 72.4), batting average (.313 vs. .310), on-base percentage and 7 Gold Gloves vs. 5 for Jeter.

I think so. Aside from having the PED connection with those two, another thing they have in common is that they were all disliked. Voters are human beings and sometimes will be influenced by their personal feelings.
Glad Walker is in the Hall but he is a borderline Hall of Famer. That is why it took 10 ballots (Andre Dawson took 9 ballots) and he made the 75% threshold by less than 2%.
Gambling is a crime much worse than cheating. You are now bringing a criminal element into the game. The biggest scandal in the history of baseball is the Black Sox. Gamblers got involved and we know what happened. MLB will do whatever it has to to avoid anything like that again. Rose bet on his own team, but what if he was in over his head and some gamblers threatened him unless he threw some games. It can be a slippery slope. That is why he will never get in.
Question, if they took away the Astros WS, would you agree that Rose should stay out?
