No need to get snarky, buddy. I pulled those stats from a sportsnet article who apparently thought it was newsworthy.

The 118.9 miles per hour single is remarkable because it means Vlad is hitting the ball hard off major L. pitching

But Vladimir Guerrero, Jr., did set two club records: his 118.9 miles per hour single in the first inning was the second-hardest ball hit in the Majors this year and the hardest Blue Jays hit registered in the Statcast era. OK, so that ‘era’ runs only from 2015. Still. The second record was reaching base four times in a game on two singles and a walk, making him at 20 years and 56 days the youngest Blue Jays hitter to do it.

You can tell, folks: he’s about to go off, up in the second spot.

Guerrero also ran into two outs on the bases: first, on a strike ‘em out throw ‘em out double play to end the first; second on a rare 4-3-3-2-4 double play when he tried to take third on a ground out with the White Sox in a shift – only to see McCann, the White Sox catcher, hustle up the line to cover the bag. Ballsy idea. Bad outcome.

"I saw the base empty," said Guerrero, Jr., speaking through a translator. "Things happened too fast that I thought it was empty. It wasn’t."

You are missing the humour.

How could he reach base 4 times on two singles and a walk.

We can add this achievement along with your post about how Vlad got a GWRBI when the bases were empty.

LOL....I missed that. Good catch (no pun attended).

His 118.9 MPH exit velocity is impressive though. That usually an upper deck homerun.
The pitch he hit it off was a 93 MPH fastball

Now they've extended Randal Gricchuk 5 years 52 million??? Is that what a fringe MLB players is worth these days??
BTW Booty, do you still think Grichuk is a fringe player??

So far this season he's hitting .250/7/18 in 40 games. Over a full season that translates to .250/28/72.
Pretty good numbers for a fringe player, no?? And he would have more ribbies if the guys in front of him would get OB more

Phil, Grichuk is nothing special, he may ne better than some of the other outfielders on the roster. Go through the rosters of other teams and see how many outfielders you would select over him. This Blue Jays team is crap.

In hind sight, "fringe player" was a bit strong, but I mean a .250 average with 25 homers are very modest stats. Lots of guys around the league putting up those numbers, and to hand him over 52 million seemed absurd to me. Adam Jones is making 3 million dollars this year and so far has better numbers. Grichuk was sent down so many times they were out of options with him. Not very convincing if you ask me. That was the problem last year. When he was struggling they couldn't send him down. He got that money because he's got a lot of "up-side" as they say. I guess a .250 average with mid 20 homers solidifies a spot for you in MLB these days as well as gets you 52 million.

Grichuk's problem is he still strikes out too much. He's on course for 200 K's, thats WAY too much!

They're hoping some of the young guns will start to look better and they're getting ready to spend.
Is this the spending you were talking about? I like Grichuk, but this is not the kind of move that will create a perennial contender.

Isn't that what every team does? Hope their young talent materializes?
So of this current group, including the farm, how many do you see that will be solid contributors on a contending team. IMO, we need to have 14 or 15 in our possession right now to field an above .500 team within 2 years. If not, it means we need to add about a half of a roster or more. How long does that take? How many free agents is shapeero willing to spend on if we don't have our own talent?

Well...they're hoping Vlad, Biggio, Bo, Tellez, Jansen and Nate Person are the core, plus there's probably a few others that have chance like Alford. And the big money will go to bunch of FA's.

That's sort of the plan. I don't have anymore details. You have to ask Ross Atkins that.

Heaven forbid, Sportsnet made a typo.
It should read 2 singles and 2 walks, but you knew that already

Sorry to see that happen but he just wasn't producing. I think he could help the Blue Jays, not as a player, but as a consultant/coach working with prospects, especially Latinos. Don't imagine that will happen!
