Sale has so far this year had a serious drop in velocity. Funny thing is BoSox have him signed till 2024 for $145 million. That's a lot of money to get stuck with if he's washed up

Okay, so I'm not saying a flop just yet.

But I am starting to wonder
Just for fyi. Mike Trout was sent back down to the minors.......twice......before he stuck.

This year is a good year to bring him up. No team expectations so he can find his stride.

Even though its not an official stat anymore, people will still use the term game winning RBI if it decides the game (like what Smoak did yesterday)
I like "quality start" as a measure of a starting pitcher's effectiveness because it is independent of how well or poorly the offense performs.

A flop??? Are you guys serious??? Holy fuck man...

Don't be surprised if it takes a month for him to get going.
If most players only got 14 ABs to prove themselves the HOF would be pretty empty.

My comment was tongue in cheek, for those who couldn't tell.

Now....let's have a look at young Mr. Trout's 1st 40 games in his rookie season, shall we?

.220 batting average
.281 on base percentage
.672 on base + slugging

Well, ain't that somethin'?

Btw, is it just my eyes deceiving me or does Chris Sale have a dead arm?

Boston fucked with his spring training schedule to try and save him for the play offs. Kind of like a Kawhi Leonard work load management thing, and now they're paying for it. His velocity is starting to come back up and his last start was much better.

I agree with you 100% ... but, we/they said the same thing about Nylander and his slow start in November/December...he was shit all season including playoffs. Just saying. Vlad will come around.

In retrospect, maybe Sancho's fingernails problems was worth it. He needed to add another pitch and his curveball is downright obscene.

Thanks for backing up my Mike Trout comment, too lazy to look for stats. No need to worry about Vladdy, his presence has lit a fire in Drury.

Only teams like Boston and NYY and the Jays have owners rich enough that can afford a hit like that.

I am impressed to see the Jays at .500
So much for being impressed, LOL. Just another valley of the many I expect to see this year.
Wonder if the Stroman, Sanchez, Smoak trade rumour had an effect on the players????

I was thinking similar. They play a good stretch of ball to get to .500 then lose 3.

How long you been watching baseball for??? That happens to almost every team, even the ones that end up making the play offs at the end of the year. Teams get hot and cold and go on runs.

A lot longer than you. Here's another revelation, teams in every sport go on streaks. Who knew?

My point, which maybe you don't understand because you have not been watching baseball long enough, is that getting to .500 is a bit of a benchmark for teams that are trying to pull themselves up to being a contender or at least a team with a winning record. Jays got off to a bad start and managed to get back to that .500 mark, but have now slipped back and will have to scratch their way back up again. Psychologically, it is a significant position, to be at .500 or better. It is something that reinforces the hard work the players are putting in, it is something that can give them pride at this point of their development/evolution.

For a very young rebuilding team, there is pride in getting to .500, so my comment had nothing to do with streaks.

Meats Still Don't Clash

Former Blue Jays outfielder Travis Snider, now with the Reno Aces (D'back's AAA affiliate) is tearing the cover off the ball.
His slash line through 27 games this season: .360/.461/.605 .

So allegedly Aaron Sanchez made some negative comments towards the Oakland sweep this week, and apparently its now caused a rift in the clubhouse
