The only people disenfranchised in that last election was the majority whose votes were de-valued, simply because they chose to live close together in cities rather than far apart in largely unpopulated states. Their over-privileged votes counted as much as five-times more than their fellow American's more numerous ones.
By your reasoning, take those under-populated states out of your equation and the USA would only be poorer by the population of a large city. Yet their Electoral votes outnumber California's, which has a population the size of Canada's. The only people who can't see the dangerous unfairness of that extreme disenfranchisement are those determined to live or die by its most recent result. Predictably, their numbers haven't grown since.
Where do you Electoral College worshippers think the fairest option lies between, "taking out" a couple million Montanans and Wyomingans and such, "taking out" 35 million Californians, or just treating American equal to every other American?
And you could still call some of them Michiganders whenever you chose to.
The dems have been talking about eliminating the electoral college. Presently most appear to support eliminating it.
There are also 20 states that now require a presidential candidate to release their taxes, dem lead, of course.

Don't have to eliminate the College, just require that Electoral votes reflect the split within each state. It needs only a few more states to reform to move that Constitutional amendment to the next level. As Wargy noted, many states presently require all their Electoral votes to go to whichever candidate gets even the tiniest one-vote margin over the runner-up.
It's ironic to see him argue that all Christians are the same and must not be distinguished by any other designation when they worship, but standing against Californians being counted as Americans, equal in every way to Alaskans, Vermonters or North Dakotans when they vote.
