The tradition is there are many unknowlegable hockey fans that love to hate the Leafs.
There are also many astute hockey fans and analysts and commentators who really don't like the Leafs chances against the Bruins - unless Freddy Anderson provides lights out goal tending and even then they are not so sure (including a lot of Leaf fans that I know who are knowledgeable hockey fans)

Andersen will be fine, he wants another shot at Boston. I would think Rask has a few question marks, he can get rattled easily. He wasn't great in game 7 in last years playoffs, only difference was a brain cramp by Gardiner and an off game by Andersen.

What annoys me is when the Leafs find some success, Oiler fans, Flames fans, Jets fans, Sens fans Habs fans and Canucks fans love to hate us. But when the Leafs aren't in the playoffs, we actually hope for the other Canadian teams to win a cup. That said, the Leafs may have the chance to eliminate the Habs from making the playoffs on Sat. That would be grand statisfaction.

Always been a Habs fan but have absolutely no animosity towards the Leafs. When I was younger I hated the Nordiques and the Bruins. Started following the NHL late 1970's. I wish the Leafs all the best but I am worried about the match-up with the Bruins. I posted this in a different thread but I think the Leafs are to soft. Good thing for the team however is if an early playoff exit happens the team as lots of assets to change the make-up of the team for future years.

The team will change regardless. They have the core. All else are interchangeable parts. There's salary cap. Players getting too old. Athletes have short careers and even shorter prime and peak years.

Only 1 team of 30 plus every year wins the cup. In effect you have 30 losers every year

Once in playoffs anything can happen. Bad matchup. Hot goalie. Injuries. Choke

TB did not even make the finals last year. They lost to Washington in 7 games. That in effect was the cup finals.

Hutchinson will serve as backup goaltender for the next 10 days as Sparks will work on his game with goaltending coaches.

not always sure...

That's reassuring. That's the last of their allowed call-ups from the AHL though, and Hutchinson would need to clear wavers to be sent back down.
My guess is this isn't just a 10 day decision.

I've hated the Flyers ever since Bobby Clarke speared Rod Seiling and got away with it. And Mel Bridgeman trying to gouge out Borje Salming's eye. I will always hate the Flyers until my last breath.

The Oilers have bigger fish to fry than hating the Leafs. If they don't make the playoffs next year, McDavid will demand a trade.

It is a testament to the Leafs best players Sittler and Salming that they did not back down to the Philly bullies

I am a bit concerned with Leafs 4th line. They are totally ineffective vs TB. Not just last game. Prior games also. Especially in their own end. They are considered a skilled 4th line so they should be doing more. They are not big so they better be skilled. Aside from Gauthier who is not so skilled but big

Agreed, but we never beat them, the Habs had to do it for us. Sweet revenge would not come until the 1999 playoffs, Sundin doing the damage. I hate the fucking Flyers!

Now that the Habs are eliminated from making the playoffs I will be cheering for the Leafs (other than on Saturday night - still hope the Habs beat them)

I will continue to pull for the Leafs until they are eliminated - then switch to whichever Canadian team is left. It would be nice (however unlikely it is that it will happen) to have the Cup come north of the border this year.

The last game Domi was bullying Johnson. Leafs came back to win. Kapanen played the violin post game.

I suspect it's because we play Hall & Oats for our goal song. They can sense the lack of self-respect in that.
Hall and Oats is money, perhaps the favorite band of Bay St.

We were spared an eyesore. Had the Penguins not made the playoffs, The Portuguese Lothario would have done The Walk of Shame...shame...shame....shame...

In regards to the earlier comment about the Oilers:

Why did Anderson need to play in a meaningless last game?

Why not Hutchinson since he hasn’t had an NHL game in months and if you do need him in the playoffs, it’d be nice if he played recently.

Freddie was asked if he wanted to play tonight, he said yes, as the Leafs next game isn't until Thursday.
Probably the same reason Tuuka Rask played today for Boston.

Hutchinson has played a lot of hockey recently as well, with the Marlies (23 games since mid January).
He's hardly rusty.

As a Habs fan just happy that Montreal finally beat Toronto after losing the last 7 times they played them. I realize it was a bit of a nothing game but pretty impressed with Ryan Poehling - hat trick and shoot out winner - not a bad 1st NHL game!! Now it is time to switch my allegiance to the Leafs for the playoffs - fingers crossed they can get by Boston.
