Jerry Lewis said women are not funny. He was still in good health when he made that comment, he was great in The King of Comedy but he and Sandra Bernhard didn't get along.

I don't get the appeal of Amy Schumer, her comedy is fake and her acting is atrocious. I Feel Pretty is the worst film of 2018. Sarah Silverman isn't that funny either but she proved in Louie and Masters of Sex that she's a decent actor - not just a common schlepper.

There are some good female comics, not just SJW darlings.

Lewis was painful to watch. I can take about 5 minutes of those old Jerry Lewis movies before I have to change the channel. Always the same goofy character, just a different script.

I'm having a hard time remember female stand-ups (as compared to male)... But women comics can be just as funny and are sought out for writing and comedic acting.

Jerry Lewis was never funny. I don't even think Jim Carey could make it now unless he tried a serious role.

Comedy like any form of art (movies, music,books etc) is completely subjective. Speaking of female comedians most are not funny IMO Amy Schumer being one of the worst culprits, take a look at her latest Netflix special which she caught a lot of flak for, rumours are that the service even did away with the stars ratings because of that special, to put it succinctly she has a bit on her vagina which goes on for almost half an hour!!!!

Someone mentioned Ilza Schlizenger, there are something like 3 specials of hers on Netflix, watched one ok not bad, so decided to give a second a few days later. The exact same mannerisms and delivery of jokes, so I'll pass, the quest for a funny female comic continues.

Jim Carrey is still relevant, he would still make it today. Tom Hardy used The Mask to create Venom. I'd just have to make do with one less talking butthole jokes.

I mentioned former Ricky Gervais co-writer Stephen Merchant writing and directing a film with the WWE. He established his independence from Gervais, writing and acting (Caliban) in Logan. SMILF has been renewed for a second season starring Frankie Shaw. She was part of Merchant's HBO mini series Hello Ladies. Not sure if Merchant lobbied on behalf of Shaw, but the show may never have been made if Logan wasn't the money maker it became.

Hollywood runs on mutualism.
