Term limits would have might have spared us that debacle.
Wouldn't term limits be "undemocratic" - denying the people the right to select the representative of their choice? I thought you were more of a purist when it came to such issues.

Oh, please! The power of incumbency in the municipal politics is overwhelming. We are at the point in Toronto where some council seats are becoming hereditary. That is an unhealthy condition because it precludes potential quality candidates from throwing their names into the ring.
Yet that power of incumbency didn't stop a number of people from running for city council until it was cut in half by Ford. I agree with cutting the size down in principle, but that should have been explicitly stated in his platform and the voters would have had a say. He obviously didn't do that to avoid repeating Hudak's mistake in promising to lay off civil servants.

If we want "quality" people running for public office then it has to be attractive to them (that includes compensation) regardless if we have fixed terms or not. The people that have the experience and track record of managing projects and people don't typically run for public office.

There are certainly pros and cons to term limits, but there should be no doubt that not having them greatly benefited Mississauga.

Having said all this, the concept of recall voting is interesting. On the surface it seems like a good idea to be able to recall an elected official for any reason and at any time and not have to wait until the next election.

Thankfully, this was not the case regarding the delousing of the civic scene by the electoral eviction of Norm Kelly and Georgio Mammoliti....hooray!

Faith Goldy got 3rd place.

Not bad at all.

She got 3.3% of the votes. Tory got 62%.

She was only 59% of the total vote short from winning....... Just sayin'.
