Cars made in China, they are coming. Would you buy one?

I had a very interesting lunch with an engineer friend of mine. He was telling me about his trip to China and the Chinese cars that he saw. He tells me that these cars are made in brand new modern factories by robot and they will rival any western car available today. Quality wise he is confident that they can stand up to anything available in North America. The electronic and structural components are the same ones you would fine in Japanese, American and European cars today as many manufacturers source parts from China. There are a few cars that are made in China and are being sold around the world at this time. There is already a luxury Volvo SUV that is being sold here and there was a Ford Focus that was cancelled because of the fear of Trump's tariffs.
Most cars today have Chinese made components. There is already a Chery SUV selling in California for 2/3 the price of a similar American SUV, but the Chinese SUV is fully equipped and warrantied up the Yin Yang.
It is expected that they would probably lease these cars for 3-6 years fully warrantied for a much lower price than other manufacturers. If the quality was there would you drive a Chinese car?

I don't understand why people get all worked up about "made in China". Sure some cheap crap comes out of there but so does some quality stuff too. Where it's made has little influence on quality, it's more a question of how much quality control are the companies getting their parts from is insisting on.

I've had a Korean car and a couple of Japanese cars. I don't see why I'd have a problem with Chinese.

I don't remember which model but there is a Buick SUV sold here that is made in China. I saw a website from the Middle East, where there are some Chinese brand cars sold. The reporter said the quality is not quite as good as Japanese and Korean cars but he thinks within 5 years the quality will be equal.

Hopefully they have improved from a couple of years ago...Chinese cars were as sturdy as a beer can.

I do too much business with the Chinese to trust a car they make. From a business perspective it is the ultimate "screw you" culture.

The last thing that China invented that was any good was gunpowder. Everything else is just a copy or a bootleg or generally just garbage.

There is a website, http://carnewschina.com/ which is interesting. The car business in China is much like it was in North America in the early days. There are a large number of different brands, both large and small companies. Some companies make copies of western cars that look identical to the genuine brand but sell for 1/10 the price. In some cases the dealer for the knockoff offers to replace the nameplates with the western names.

These days car parts are sourced from many different countries/manufacturers. Much like the Apple iphone. So a car may be assembled at one place but the design could be from Italy, gearbox could be german, steel could be from India, tires from US.......

Not too long ago I was told about half of the new
car sold were financed by loans. In that case I would expect
nearly half of the perspective buyers would switch to cars
made in China to save a few thousand bucks.

I’m suprised it’s only half I would have assumed between financing and leasing it would be way more.

I have done business with probably 35-40 Chinese companies. over the years. Not one of them didn't cut corners, and not one of them didn't deliver an inferior product then they promised. Cant speak to autos but that is my experience

Just about everything is made in China. Nobody second guesses it till you bring up cars.

Like a previous post said, everything is outsourced these days. Nothing is ever 100% built by 1 company.

For the people who dont really understand politics, the TPP agreement that Trump DID NOT sign but Canada did is all about Pacific rim countries bringing in their shit to our country. As long as its produced in those countries, our laws are not applied as its not made here. They can use as much toxins in the food and as much child labor in their products as possible with no consequence hence the cheaper pricing.

see, Trump is actually taking care of business for his people.

A lot of the electronics are now made in China they have evolved over the years to produce good quality with some of the goods. I won't be surprised if they come up with good quality.
