Yes you could open the windows, I remember there was a latch or clip to pull it down and push it up.Great thread. I too loved the Gloucestor car when the lights flickered. As a kid, it was amazing. The sound, the feel, the rumble. I could have sworn the windows opened too. Can anybody confirm?
I have a photo of myself on a ferry boat taken by my buddy as we were on our way to Hanlon's point to watch the labour day air show and to take photos of the jets and planes that flew directly over head back in 1992.
In the back ground of the photo is the Toronto skyline, you could see the Sky Dome entirely, pretty much no condos, If you were to take the same photo today, you would not see the Rogers Centre at all.
Exactly essguy!!! I remeber going to Yonge and Queen on cool fall/winter days and enjoying the smell and the warmth of those chestnuts. It's funny but when I go there now I still look around like I'm going to find one."You really struck a memory with the roasted chestnut vendors (I'm assuming you mean with the red carts?) who used to be around the museum and other venues - really miss those guys. I guess they were long priced out of the market. Another old time street vendor who has largely disappeared is the sharpening man. My neighbourhood still has a guy who comes around in the summer. But instead of walking with wheeled sharpener ringing a bell - he's in a truck. But has the same type of bell.
I loved those red carts. Once a year at a church in my area growing up, there some kind of Italian festival. All these Italian guys would come with those red carts that sold caramel apples, candy apples, cotton candy chestnuts, some type of spiraled red candy that was made with the same stuff as the candy apple, and they had few novelty type items they sold. One was this bird whistling thing you put on your tongue. I bought it one year but just couldn't make the whistle noise like the old Italian guys...lol.Exactly essguy!!!
