I don't know if Bell has done the same but Rogers no longer has LeafsTV as an automatic bonus to the Deluxe Plan. If you have not designed it as a bonus, you'll be paying an $4.00 for the channel. MLSE will probably broadcast some Leafs games on LeafsTV exclusively, that not enough for me to pay an extra $4 for a channel I never watch.

Paul Romanuk is out from calling Leaf games this season. Too bad as I enjoyed his style. John Bartlet, who was calling games for the Habs, is his replacement.

In this case, I disagree with you. He is the absolute worst announcer in Canada. He just tried too hard to be flowery like Danny Gallivan but he could never pull it off. My son and I always laugh about him using "luminescent" to describe a player.

He can go back to do the Spengler Cup.

Still get a chill when i listen to Gallivan calling a game on youtube clips. I even enjoyed his sidekick Dick Irvine as he worked well with him.

Too bad as I hated the habs during those days.

For me he was one of the best voices in hockey.

Apparently Romanuk thought the world of Gallivan.

Bob Cole had the voice but in his later years became senile had moments where he just lost what was going on in the action. Harry Neale was great colour. Great sense of humour. Jim Hughson boring. Craig Simpson even more boring. Joe Bowen is great but he is all homer.

Was never a fan of Bob Cole. Hughson I do not mind (he used to call Blue Jay games).

As a kid I remember listening to Bill Hewitt. Below is a link to an interesting article about him. I guess he had some health/mental issues and one day just walked away from the job. Had to be tough being Foster's son.

Bill called Sittlers 10 point game against the Bruins.

I grew up with Bill Hewitt. Maybe it was my impression as a kid. but he sounded amazingly like his father. (Haven't watched the above clip yet)

Don't you just love it when those thieves include channels as part of a package then suddenly drop them. Only to charge you extra for what you were already paying for.

Do you have to actively ask them that you want to opt out from that channel?

No because LeafsTV is no longer part of Rogers Deluxe package, it was part of the package free for several years. I got rid of Al Jazeera (BeIN Sports), I was paying the $15 premium for it. TSN got back the broadcasting rights to Serie A soccer, which allows TLN to broadcast it in the GTA. Saves me money. Had I kept Al Jazeera, possibly LeafsTV would have been part of the package. I know that if I had bought Sportsnet World, I would have gotten LeafsTV free. I'm not going to miss it even if they get exclusive broadcast to some Leafs games.

This should be renamed the Rogers Deluxe package thread.

I almost feel sorry for the Ottawa Senators - almost.

They're going to have a tough time dealing Erik Karlsson. He may not be fully recovered from his foot injury and playing with the injury during the 2017 playoffs made it worse. Team are not going to give up capital assets for a player that could be out of hockey by 2021. I say almost because they tried to ban Leafs fans from playoff games and called Tie Domi a wife beater without evidence - fuck em!

A classy move by the Leafs hiring Haley Wickenheiser to help with player development. She is the Steve Yzerman of women's hockey and probably just as nimble minded. She's from Saskatchewan, one of the Western teams should have hired her by now?

It appears that Kyle Dubas was the only one who believed in her abilities to be a productive addition to the player development staff. Kudos to her for balancing this with her medical studies at University of Calgary.

Cole and Neal were the best. I can't listen to Craig Simpson, and even worse than him is Chris Cuthbert.

Hockey and broadcasting just isn't the same anymore. The changing of the guard at HNIC, the theme song gone, and the game itself being less physical just isn't as exciting. I used to get chills on a Saturday night when that HNIC theme song came on. The anticipation of watching Leafs VS Habs game on a Saturday night with Bob Cole calling the game, and Ron and Don in coaches corner was simply amazing entertainment.

I even couldn't stand the last Leafs game I went to at then ACC. The new score board is way to big and distracting. I felt like I had gone to watch a movie as opposed to a hockey game. I like the old score board. A decent size TV screen facing each side, then on top they had the other score boards, with the cool Air Canada logo at the bottom.

Old time hockey is gone never to return. The game has a long way to go to dispel the image of a violent white elitist sport. It can't afford another Joe Murphy, Jeff Beukeboom or Wade Belak. Nowhere is that more eveident than in the Toronto/GTA area. Soccer and baseball has overtaken hockey as participation sports for kids, with tennis on the rise. And the hockey developmental are ultra corrupt, more interested in skimming families than providing proper training. And head injuries puts hockey at the same as football when parents choose activities for their kids.

Hockey has to do better to survive, it can't become Rollerball on ice.

Just assuming since none of the articles I've read indicated any other interested parties.
If you have other information, please share then.

You can include basketball too.

More like the costs to participate in hockey has become prohibitive for many families. Can't comment on the league fees but the equipment costs for growing kids are huge, especially for goaltenders.

Almost tempted to say trade Gardner for Karlsson, after passing a physical examination. Then include a first round draft pick in 2019 if Karlsson plays 70% of the games.
