Two issues, here. First, McCormack is an union head, so you can't really take him seriously. Second, the TPS budget tops a billion/year, most of it goes to salaries. That's not sustainable whichever way we look at it. Add to that Toronto Fire and Paramedics and you're looking at a good part of the overall budget. They simply priced themselves out of the market
I agree with you there's too many cops on the Sunshine List, but do you not think 800 uniformed cops is a little too low for a city the size of Toronto??

What do you expect when people listen to RAP music which glorifies violence and the sexual exploitation of women.

Keep killing each other bros and soon you’ll be extinct. Darwin’s law.

No fucks given

Lots of cops have retired. McCormack said TPS is down to 800 officers now, thats the lowest its been since 1991
Maybe if cops didn't get paid so much, especially shit like being suspended for years at a time and still getting paid, we could put more of them on the street. I recently read about a cop who was on paid suspension for 7 years. The issue with the police budget is isn't the budget, it's how they budget.

Sorry - I didn't realize . I apologize & agree with you 100%. Canada already has strict gun laws & anyone who doesn't know that should go read up on it . Otherwise they're just proving how naive they are.
Obviously you don't understand sarcasm. I own firearms both restricted and non restricted. I know the laws and that's why I find it hilarious when dum dums try to push for more laws.

Caribana is coming up very soon
One trick they utilize is not play any dancehall or reggae. Stick to soca, calypso, pan, chutney, etc...
That would improve safety by a lot, certain people won't enjoy the parade and leave.

"are you that naiive? you can have a gun in Canada as long as you have the right permits for it . You know there are people who go hunting up north right - all of those people have permits to have their guns. You should really do some research before speaking on a topic you have no education in."

Not quite, sweetiepie. In the first quote, HeyHey was referring to HANDGUNS. People who go hunting "up north" ( they also go out east and out west) do not use handguns. Unless one is a bona fide "trapper" who needs to do so for his livelihood can carry a restricted firearm with the appropriate permit, and in the specified location. Other wise using a handgun or any other restricted firearm for hunting is illegal. As for the non restricted firearms that are allowed for hunting, the owner only has to have a firearms possession acquisition licence (PAL), and a hunting license. There is no permit required for the non restricted firearm, as there is no longer a long gun registry.

"Anyone who has a gun in Canada is supposed to be licensed and have a permit - therefore there is a gun registry - do some research and educate yourself.". Again, not true. Anyone possessing non restricted firearms only requires a valid PAL. No permit for those firearms is required, and these guns are not provincially or federally registered.

You just proved me right . I said you need the right permits/ licenses to have a gun in Canada. Not sure why you are arguing with me about my wording. I never said the people up north use handguns to hunt - I said they have permits for the firearms they possess . You just said what I said but explained in further detail. Anyone in Canada can take the FSC ( unless you have a firearm ban / criminal record , I think ) - that's the point I was making.

That's just stereotypical nonsense.

Most homicides in U.S. occurred in 5 percent of counties, says study

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/apr/25/most-murders-occurred-in-5-percent-of-countys-says/

Those who have the money to have a home and appliances may be complacently watching TV, but tens of millions of non-black folks are just barely living a normal life, while another tens of millions more are living in their cars or tents. Their numbers are always increasing, and over the next couple of decades, if the US doesn't start spreading the wealth, poor whites are going to take to the streets the way blacks did in the riots a few decades ago. Social media is going to be the trigger, the way it's worked for the coloured revolutions abroad in the last couple of decades. Maybe that's why the US establishment wants to end equality of access to the internet. Those who can't pay a premium for access are going to be shut out.

FDR, when he was setting up his New Deal in the early 1930's, put the US tycoons on notice that if they didn't start sharing the wealth, he was going to do it for them, as he feared mass civil unrest from the milliions who had nothing to lose. You underestimate the US citizen's potential for revolt.

It's not going to happen tomorrow, but with the real US unemployment rate at over 20%, if the trend to concentration of wealth continues, you can bet it's going to happen within the next couple of decades.
Here you are buddy boy. The US homicide rate state by state. All your favourite Goo' Ol' Boy states topping the list. Those country boys just love shooting other people!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_homicide_rate

Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi........... They're all there right at the top.

Not arguing, just clarifying. HeyHey was referring to handguns.

I don't man, he strikes me as a total upstanding citizen. I just can't picture this guy being involved in any shady activity.
I agree. Clearly this is the fault of white people and lack of opportunity for this oppressed youth.
If only there was some place where they could go and get an education this never would have happened. It's not like canada has free schooling to grade 12. And after they graduated with honours of only there were jobs available for these lost souls.

11 people have been shot in GTA since Friday
John troy just came out and said its 90% gang related so we have nothing to worry about.

Time to lock and delete this thread, problem has been solved.

From CP24....

"So far in 2018, the number of shootings occurrences in the three Toronto police divisions that largely encompass the downtown core (14 Division, 51 Division, and 52 Division) has risen by 100 per cent over the same time frame last year. The number of shooting victims has risen by 133 per cent.". There was one news source who reported that per capita, Toronto is having a higher shooting rate than NYC. I know stats can be skewed, but even if it's close, its not good.

Why do so many shootings happen on weekends in Toronto?

Is it best to go out on other nights?
