I had a friend who used to haggle at the higher end places. He'd say he could get a better deal by going to the clothing manufacturers on Spadina. The problem now is that there are no longer any clothing manufacturers on Spadina.

You might try to haggle but don't expect much. They may throw in a shirt and/or slacks to go with it but I doubt you'd get more.

Speaking of Harry Rosen, I've always gone there to buy my suits/jackets and I only go when they have a female salesperson on the floor. I've always felt that a woman has a better eye for what looks good on a man.
Or a gay man

You have to know what you're looking at. There are some items at Harry Rosen going for huge prices that I avoid because I know it is too 'fashion-forward'... Buy what you need and buy over time looking out for the sale periods if you want to save more You'll build a nice wardrobe eventually. Add pieces here and there from that point on.

I don't get people's aversion to cost... We're all on TERB where we spend shit-tonnes of money slinging our yogurt at friendly women... Skip a session and buy a nice shirt every once in a while.

Civilian women spend $500-$1K on boots/shoes, $300 on hair and hundreds more on lingerie... All so they look hot and get interest and action from men. Take note of their sacrifice too. That is why guys buy dinner and open car doors. Where a sport jacket because you respect yourself.

Clothes shopping in the U.S is so much better if you want quality brand name items. Hit up Woodbury Outlet in New York or order stuff online and pick it up in Buffalo.
Not necessarily so unless you know exactly how a particular brand fits on you. Plus with the current exchange rate, unless you're down there on business, it's not worth it IMHO.

Clothes are not like computers where if it's a year old, it's not going to be inferior to the newest edition.
With technical sportswear, I beg to differ.

Women have a fucked up sense of priorities in many cases. They will spend a grand on a pair of shoes and then drive a piece of shit or expect the guy to pay for the shelter, food, and transportation. Men prioritize differently. We have this thing called sense. It does not make sense to drop a grand on shoes and then take the bus because you're broke.

But I hear your point about spending money on 1 hour with a sex worker as opposed to buying a Canali shirt at HR.

Even if you make a modest income, you can still afford some decent wardrobe components. Less is more as they say.

And that's how it's always been. And it will never change ever.

No matter what kind of focus or "every one is equal" message modern day society says, women focus on materialistic stuff, dolling themselves up, and often have a interest how much $$$ a guy makes. Earning your own pay is second priority. If the guy makes big coin and can cover everyone, happy as a clam. Time to chill out and spend afternoons at Yorkdale Mall.

Guys on the hand are different. Most prefer to work, very few have a gold digger mentality, and guys love hot women. Even if their wife or girlfriend makes good money, how many will try to worm their way, quit work and sit and home and golf while she works? Basically none. "Hey guys, wazzup? Guess what? Jennifer makes good coin and I'm allowed to hang out and sleep in all day"...... you'll never see that.

It's give and take and the general population knows it. Guys love hotties and may spend money to get it. Women dolls themselves up, love to buy useless shit, and hope their man has a big salary.

I am considering a super soft and light black leather jacket instead of a blazer . I find blazers uncomfortable. Any TERBITE got a fashion opinion on leather jackets worn as a blazer ? The staff at HR will agree with anything you say to get you to buy

BTW, a blazer is a jacket resembling a suit jacket, but meant for casual wear

Of course it could be us who have fucked up priorities spending $80 K on a car, getting clothes at Winners and wearing three year old underwear. Whatever works.

My humble opinion is DO NOT do it as a leather jacket never replaces a blazer. Never ever.

To me, in this area of clothing, a guy should 'strive' for the following (in order of formality):
1. Charcoal grey suit, single-breasted. Don't buy 'skinny' and do not buy double-breasted. Only buy another colour if your are in a business that requires you to wear a suit every day or you are 'rich'. That should be blue followed by a lighter grey,
2. Buy a blue blazer together with two pairs of legitimate trousers (to go with your snake). Grey and another colour (speak with the salesman on that colour). This is for your in-between times when you need to be more formal than a sport jacket. Skip this if you're constrained by budget too much.
3. Sport jackets: Structured, unstructured, fabrics, patterns, etc. Go nuts, but buy as you can afford and probably stick with a safe classic and colour depending on what you look like. Denim (jeans to most chumps) pairs with sport jackets. Wear nice sneakers if you want (like Jerry Seinfeld),
4. Shoes with matching Belt: Buy quality ($$$) and look after them. Black oxfords then brown (broguing or oxfords). Again - Look after them. Wear beater shoes in shit weather or buy overshoes.

BONUS TIP: Never wear a suit jacket on its own. It'll stand out poorly in comparison to your peers.

Tough to do when young, but give yourself some time and you'll be set. Avoid trendy as it'll date itself. I have shit I never wear so I've made that mistake.

I think that is solid advise and don't think I'm "gay" either.

HAHA!!! While maybe not $80K, I spent more money on cars whilst 'young' making this my worst financial mistake(s) ever. I just buy a decent vehicle now... Everyone has a BMW or Benz it seems nowadays.

I have a nice car now. But only because I make good money and am middle aged. I can afford it. I was driving "common dude cars" before.

Anyone spending lots of money when their young will lead to a paycheque to paycheque standard of living unless someone starts off with a really good job in their early years. Most people (who probably have avg jobs) should budget wisely, and then spend more later on.

When I started out, I was on my own, so I had to buy my own place and car. Didn't ask my parents or older siblings for help. Lived modestly and broke even for a few years.

Then got a better job, BUT still lived the same way at the same place. Built up some cash, then moved to a place that was the same purchase price. But took the gains on my unit and banked it. Then from there it was a cycle of buying real estate and flipping them. Moved a few more times each time banking gains, and cycled the money back into properties flipping again.

The old saying is 100% true. It takes money to make money.

Anyone spending all their loose cash on non-revenue generating purchases will never get financial bumps from investing. Unless someone has a very high level job that pays so much, you automatically bank lots of savings naturally, most people will struggle trying to build up savings and investment gains if they blow all their money.

This is all very good advice. Women notice these fine details. And it does look very good.

This is a big problem if your $80k car is your biggest "asset".

BTW, I love my Winners t-shirts and my undies are 5 years old. I have the skid marks to prove it.

Goodoer made some good points.

I love Harry Rosen and have been a customer for over 20+ years. I have the suits shirts ties suspenders cuff links shoes etc. And you don't haggle just show up for their semi annual sales early or go to a their outlets. I have a salesman who I deal with exclusively, i call him and we set up a time, when I do pop in and am approached I just tell them I'm fine and they leave me alone. I find the selection very good and the service top notch even compared to many places in the states and Europe.

There is nothing wrong with a leather jacket, if you are uncomfortable with blazers ... as long as it goes with your other attire. There are many fashionable leather jackets that work in this scenario, I have a lovely Andrew Marc that I bought from HR many years ago that goes nicely on colder evenings as well as a leather suit jacket/blazer that shines nicely ... both have received compliments.

Appreciate advice but not so sure about leather jacket. Yes a blazer has its place but so does leather. I am talking soft lamb skin , or whatever it was, , no shine and no zippers except the one that does it up and no brass buttons or elaborate design. I saw the jacket in HR and immediately wanted to feel the softness. I am sure women would want to do the same and it is light as a feather and totally comfortable. You can wear it with anything : jeans, trousers , t shirt etc

Being a black jacket I would not wear black pants. If I did wear black pants I would wear color in the shirt and shoes or I would end up looking like Johnny Cash

Concerning you comment about color, it entirely depends on your skin tone and skin color. Guys will match outfits but forget to match cloths with your skin tone. Blue may look good on you but I look best in fall colours

I am not gay either

The secret to not being approached by multiple sales staff at Harry's is to walk in wearing their clothes. They will know you have a favourite sales person waiting for you. I like Harry's because they handle some clothing lines that are difficult to find anywhere else in TO. The person who looks after me remembers exactly the brand of shirts/pants/jackets/shoes I purchased in the past. Expensive but superb quality. They will also repair or replace the clothing etc. they sell you if you are not happy with the items purchased. GB
