I am considering a super soft and light black leather jacket instead of a blazer . I find blazers uncomfortable. Any TERBITE got a fashion opinion on leather jackets worn as a blazer ? The staff at HR will agree with anything you say to get you to buy
BTW, a blazer is a jacket resembling a suit jacket, but meant for casual wear
My humble opinion is DO NOT do it as a leather jacket never replaces a blazer. Never ever.
To me, in this area of clothing, a guy should 'strive' for the following (in order of formality):
1. Charcoal grey suit, single-breasted. Don't buy 'skinny' and do not buy double-breasted. Only buy another colour if your are in a business that requires you to wear a suit every day or you are 'rich'. That should be blue followed by a lighter grey,
2. Buy a blue blazer together with two pairs of legitimate trousers (to go with your snake). Grey and another colour (speak with the salesman on that colour). This is for your in-between times when you need to be more formal than a sport jacket. Skip this if you're constrained by budget too much.
3. Sport jackets: Structured, unstructured, fabrics, patterns, etc. Go nuts, but buy as you can afford and probably stick with a safe classic and colour depending on what you look like. Denim (jeans to most chumps) pairs with sport jackets. Wear nice sneakers if you want (like Jerry Seinfeld),
4. Shoes with matching Belt: Buy quality ($$$) and look after them. Black oxfords then brown (broguing or oxfords). Again - Look after them. Wear beater shoes in shit weather or buy overshoes.
BONUS TIP: Never wear a suit jacket on its own. It'll stand out poorly in comparison to your peers.
Tough to do when young, but give yourself some time and you'll be set. Avoid trendy as it'll date itself. I have shit I never wear so I've made that mistake.
I think that is solid advise and don't think I'm "gay" either.
