Stanton hit a homerun in every 2.7 games last year. No shame in giving one up against him

Donaldson looks like he's playing with an injured shoulder. Not looking good

JD's shoulder definitely looking fucked.

Jays slowly bleeding runs, unable to get anything going against Severino.

I know that many here are pessimistic, however aside from their pitching, hitting and defense I thought they looked pretty good.

Whose bright idea was it to have the season opener end right in the middle of rush hour on a rainy day? The traffic is absolutely brutal still and it’s almost 9 o’clock yet it’s like it’s still 5 PM rush-hour.

Definitely the downside of living close to the Rogers centre is that I always have to pay attention to when the Blue Jays games end and plan my trips around that.

Was really looking forward to going out for a quick rub and tug tonight but that’s not gonna happen tonight unless I wanna be driving for 3 hours.

Simply outclassed today, Stanton will have a monster year if he stays healthy.

Listened to most of the game on the radio driving home (traffic sucked tonight!). Seems weird not having Jerry on the air. Will need to get used to the new radio play by play guy.

I especially miss Zaun. I realize he is a love him or hate him kind of guy, but I always liked that he was not afraid to tell it like it is. At least he has a show on you tube

I read that today. Shapeero trying to keep Rogers' pockets lined by making money at both ends.

I believe the article said that more tickets were available on the secondary market than at the box office. Clearly the Jays don't mind the scalpers getting their hands on the tickets. Who cares if the fans have to pay more as long as we make more money.

BTW, this is on top of the Jays increasing ticket prices 4 straight years. At least AA brought in talent and increased payroll to justify it. Cheapie brings us retreads hoping they get their grooves back. (I liked that one.)

great idea to not play Travis and Donaldson on Monday and Tuesday. They both looked totally unprepared and went 0 for 7. And don't blame turf. dh or just play a few innings

This is really a non-Jays story, MLB has blanket agreements in place with several of these ticket sites, and all but 3 clubs are a part of it.

Only the Cubs, Yankees, and Angels opted out of the deal to pursue their own arrangements to get an even bigger slice of the pie.

Yep.

Also, as I've said before, the Jays are in a no-win situation with raising prices and the secondary market.

If people feel like they absolutely have to finger out a villain, it's not the Jays here - start with StubHub and people like this:

The way the Jays looked on their home opener, scalpers are going to be left holding their balls. Shapeyero knew what he was getting into, Alex Anthopolous traded away 70% for runs that fell short. The Tulo deal is starting to reek right about now.

I disagree. There have been a number of posts analyzing those trades in 2015 and where those prospects have ended up. Pretty much all of them are mediocre players.

Focus is on prospects only, not major league talent that was traded.

For Tulo and Hawkins, they let go:

* Jeff Hoffman - Sub .500 pitcher, 5 plus ERA
* Jesus Tinoco - Sub .500 pitcher, 4 plus ERA
* Miguel Castro - Sub .500 pitcher, 4 plus ERA, Now with Baltimore.
* Jose Reyes

For Price:

* Daniel Norris - .500 pitcher, 4 plus ERA
* Matt Boyd - Sub .500 pitcher, 5 plus ERA
* Jairo Labourt - less than in inning pitched. Still in the minors, little hope of hitting the big leagues.

For Mark Lowe:

* Jake Brentz - Sub .500 pitcher, 4 plus ERA
* Nick Wells - Sub .500 pitcher, 5 plus ERA
* Rob Rasmussen - 2-1 record, 7 plus ERA, looks like he is out of baseball

For Ben Revere:

* Jimmy Cordero - Sub .500 pitcher, 4 plus ERA
* Alberto Tirado - plus .500 record, 3.47 ERA - All in the minor leagues

For Cliff Pennington:

* Dawel Lugo - minor league short stop, small chance to make the show

I am comfortable in stating that this group of players would not have made any impact on the future of the organization, whereas the stars they were traded for did.

Baseball prospects are like a batting average. If 25 - 30% pan out, then you have an excellent scouting staff.

Teams know when they have a can't miss and will hold on to those players (most times). But for those fringe players, if you can get some proven major league talent for them that will put you in a position to win it all, then it is wise to go for it.

Interesting.

As to your last point, Guerrero and Bichette, who shapeero is hoping will anchor the rebuild, were AA acquisitions who he held onto. Also though, as you point out, there are no guarantees, even with them.

Do we have any good pitchers on the rise?

Ref, I stand refuted...you left out Noah Syndergaard.

The Yankees of the late 90's were built on prospects - then they got The Mighty A-Roid who turned out to be El Chocko in the playoffs.

The Jays have a hot catching prospect in Daniel Janssen, I suspect Russell Martin will be grooming him as the season progresses. I was looking forward to watching what Anthony Alford can do, he has athleticism unlike any other player in the starting line up. Unfortunately he may not be back till May.

I wasn't sure but I thought I'd heard on TV that they were AA guys. Damn fake news. Does Breitbart have a sports section?

It seems both those pitchers are several years away although Zeuch may be a bit closer.
