Rather foolish advice. That decision is best left to a doctor or mental health professional, and entirely dependent on the state of the person under assessment.Drugs are also an option, though from what I've seen I'd consider them a last resort, as they have just as much chance of making things worse as making things better.
SSRI's and similar drugs are used to help stabilize people suffering acute mental health crises, etc; the worst thing you can do is refuse treatment if a doctor believes it is in your best interest, or dissuade others from accepting treatment themselves.
