Stanley’s defence is based on the claim that the gun went off “accidentally”. No one believes that.

Beyond a reasonable doubt is the burden of proof, which wasn't met.

As someone who has admitted he is ignorant of what rural Saskatchewan life is like and has no knowledge of the low number of officers who police rural areas and amount of time it takes the few of them to respond to calls, you should shut up. You are a world away from their reality.

Which is since I disagree with the verdict the jury was wrong. There was only one possible "real verdict" guilty.

Whether or not the guy is guilty and went overboard, here's a life tip:

In places like this where people likely have a high chance of owning guns or rifles (as opposed to a bunch of bankers living in a condo downtown), the last thing any idiot should be doing is provoking someone who likely owns a firearm.

It's not like that family seems like serial killers going around shooting anyone who walks by.

It seemed something freaked them out as a bunch of people were on their property in a fishy way and one of the guys tried to steal their ATV. So what happened is the guy grabbed a weapon and blasted someone.

Don't do stupid shit, and Gerald Stanley and his son wouldn't have reacted like this. They would have continued on building that wooden fence in peace.

Lesson learned.

When they heard Sheldon yelling, the people got back in the car and reversed toward Stanley. Stanley said he kicked the tail light. The vehicle then drove forward, revving fast, toward Sheldon, who hit the windshield with a hammer. The vehicle then rammed into one of the Stanley family's unoccupied SUV vehicles.
He said he then realized he couldn't see his wife, and had a feeling of "pure terror" fearing she'd been pinned under the grey SUV. Stanley said he was going to look under the vehicle, but popped back up after it started revving again. "I wanted that car off," he said. Stanley said he reached for the keys with one hand, with the handgun in the other. Then the gun fired.
He said there was a rifle between Boushie's legs pointing at Stanley, but the farmer "wasn't aware of that."

Looks like the group was looking for trouble from the get go. And the fact one of them tried stealing the ATV means they "were still in asshole mode" whether or not they had a flat or not. And if one of them had a rifle, who knows what that intent was.

Was the guy justified blasting him? Who knows. Really depends on the situation and how feared filled he was defending his turf. By the sounds of it, there seemed be a ruckus and vehicles driving forward and back and ramming other vehicles, so it seemed like a hassle was going on. But how much of a fearful life or death situation there really was would determine whether or not Gerald was justified shooting.

The courts say he was. So unless an appeal says otherwise, that's the decision.

Never the less, a situation that had a lot of fucktardary going on.
