Right, and whats the solution???
Downsview Park works for me.

Actually, there are lots of advantages.

Lots and lots of land, not only for the stadium but on-site parking.

A very close subway stop.

401

Allen road (could probably be expanded).

The only problem is that it is not in a location called downtown.

Only major problem with that, is you take away the downtown experience that a lot of out-of-towners feel when they come to a Jay game.
Skydome is the perfect location, right next to the ACC.

Only problem is the stadium itself is ridiculously outdated.
I kinda agree with ACC and Rogers at this point, maybe its time to refurbish this monstrosity.

But thats probably all wrong. What the hell do I know????!

I don't care where they put it, but, because I am coming in from out of town I want a dome. If I buy tickets for a specific date I want to be able to know there will be a game on said date, and that we will be reasonably comfortable at the game. The Rogers center actually works for me and I still enjoy going there.

I'm really upset aboot this, we have no new stadium, and even if we did, we got nowhere to put this darned thing

Phil......not nice to call people names, coming from you I am really upset and disappointed, I may even cry!
I don't know why you are upset, you are in Toronto and may go to a game any time you are sober enough to find the dome!
In my case, about an hour away, which maybe closer than some GTA residents, I just want to be able to buy tickets, go to and enjoy the game.
If it will help, I have acreage that is not in use that I would be happy to sell to a developer wanting to build a stadium in the middle of no where!

The only thing I can think of, is if they can somehow actually basically renovate and make it a completely difference place. They can do amazing things these days, but even then, it would take two of 3 years and it would be an eye sore while they play there during the reno's. I mean, you need to bring the walls down somehow. They're way to high and even when the roof is open, you just don't get that feeling of an open air stadium. It needs natural grass, the thing looks like a fucking egg and needs to be re-shaped. I don't know what they're going to do, but everyone knows they need to do something.

That's great for you, but I'm not sure free agents who are figuring out where they want to play give a fuck if the stadium works for you. They're all about themselves.

I like the Rogers Centre. Liked it when it first opened and still like it today. The last set of renovations updated the place nicely. That being said, I would love to see a new park ballpark and entertainment destination on the Ontario Place site...kind of like the Texas Live experience currently being constructed as we write.

When was the last time you heard a free agent say I am signing with team X because the stadium has comfortable seats and it is up to BBL standards? 99% sign where the money is. If you pay them they will come. The Rogers center is lot better than exhibition stadium or Maple Leaf stadium and it has been drawing large crowds in spite of the fact the team was near the bottom of their division most of the 2017 season. Because YOU don't like it means as much as the fact as it works for me!

Jays just re-signed Donaldson for $23million , a new single-season record for an arb-eligible player.
The infield is set for the new season. Just need a decent backup catcher for Martin. Then,a couple of more moves with regard to the outfield and sp's. Bring on the Yankees, bro!

Honestly, I would like to bad mouth about the Jays inactivities this winter. But, if you looked at the AL other than the Yanks and current champion Astros,on paper, are best coming in to the new season. The rest I think Jays can compete for...2nd WC..

EARL:
What are you smoking? WTF have they done that has you optimistic? To me they have for the most part stood pat and that got them competing with the Orioles for the basement last year.

Exactly!!

Unless some Jays have comeback seasons (like Tulo), and a few others have career years with no major injuries, we wont be competing

Based on early expectations Yanks and Sox will fight for 1st and 2nd in the ALE. I can't remember the year but do you recall the Jays big trade with the Marlins and everyone in the US predicted the Jays winning the WS back then? So,nobody knows what happens to teams for at least a 1/4 into the season. I like the signing of Donaldson. One year deal will motivate him to have a monster year, imo. The challenge for the Jays is to find another powerful bat to protect Donaldson in the lineup. Easier said than done from bringing in some guys to do a much better job than Bautista last season.

And I wouldn't count on Smoaky repeating his career year. (Not talking to you, George.)

There are plenty of players that have concerns about playing on artificial surface.

As far as going where the money is, you are correct. They will always follow the money, but if they get offered similar contracts, there are always other considerations. Do they like the city itself? Does the team have a chance to win a WS? I'm sure the stadium is a consideration. Some may like the fact during spring they play in a nice warm cozy dome that the Rogers Centre offers, while others still prefer to play in a more natural style ball park.

When Camden Yards was built/designed, (the first of the new style stadiums), they asked tons of players what they want and love in a stadium. Once they got that feedback, they designed the stadium, and as you can see, Camden Yards is the furthest thing from the Rogers Centre. After Camden Yards was built, pretty much the rest of teams followed suite. Some teams decided to try and get the best of both worlds, and old style open air stadium with a re-tractable roof. Milwaukee, Seattle, Houston, and Arizona all have that type of stadium, and Texas is getting a new stadium like this as well (already their second, after skydome was built so they will have lapped us in new stadiums..lol).

Anyhow, bottom line is, players care about the stadium they play in, and fans care about the place they go to watch baseball. You look at any poll of "worst stadiums in baseball", and 3 near the bottom will always be Tampa, Oakland, and Toronto.
