Yet you didn't see the cop who was close enough to observe you breaking the law. Clearly you didn't thoroughly check.

I know several people who still text and drive. Like you they claim they are perfectly safe, yet I've seen them cross lane lines, brake late and almost hit the car in front of them, delay start at a green, etc. I wonder what an outside observer would say about your driving?

I have two family members who are Actuaries for insurance companies, their statistics clearly show that "lazy stops" (i.e. at red lights, stop signs and pulling out in front of other traffic) are one of the largest causes of traffic accidents and pedestrians hits. My Police family members believe "mental cruise control" (I still can't remember the proper term) is a huge problem on the roads. The most common justifications they hear from people "I didn't see the other car / sign / light.

You are a dangerous driver - an accident waiting to happen. You can't overcome human nature and your arrogance only makes it worse.

Sure whatever. Go ahead and try to argue that with the judge.

Wrong. It's your flawed human nature supported by years of accident statistics and police observations. People develop bad habits, they get lazy, we're easily distracted and we daydream. It gets worse at dusk and at night and with age. Arrogance makes it worse.
No use in trying to debate something with someone who is totally clueless. Talk about entitlement. He has a low opinion of SP's who publish a wish list but it is ok to continue doing something that is so obviously against the law. By his own admission he is a very good driver. Well, very good drivers follow the rules of the road. He didn't and was caught not coming to a full stop at a stop sign but tries to justify his actions. Entitled? Yes. Stupid? A big yes. Not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign is a moving violation and the offender is fined and loses demerit points, which can lead to higher car insurance premiums. Those who continually break the law when driving are lucky if they have not been caught. That doesn't make you a good driver. Question, when you are taking your driving road test and you never come to a complete stop at all stop signs, what are the odds you will pass?

Most of what you say makes no sense, and as usual, you didn't disappoint.

I know a guy who passed a driving test after the tester pulled the emergency brake during the test. I know another guy who failed a test because he went 5 km/h above the limit on a downhill. I've seen a ton of people make careless mistakes that probably shouldn't have licenses but that's life. I know a guy who was caught doing 45km/h above the limit but was let go by the cop without a ticket because his sister is a cop. So frankly, none of it makes sense.

And if you are going to criticize, feel free to discontinue hobbying since according to the law everything is against the rules. Does hobbying mean that all of us are bad because it's breaking the law?

Haha - you're quoting insurance company actuaries? Think you just killed your case there.
Spoken like a guy who has a chip on his shoulder. Both these highly educated and professional women have spent years analizing statistics, speaking with Police Officers, reviewing interviews with clients who have been in accidents, commissioning and reading studies (including medical and physiological), speaking to fellow actuaries in related fields. You are just some guy who rolls through stop signs and endangered others.

I'm actually a very good driver who is proactive instead of reactive (as they teach in Young Drivers). I haven't had an accident in 15 years, and that was when I was a new driver. I actually avoid being in a large number of accidents due to the fact that I recognize and anticipate bad lane changes, people who take turns when they shouldn't, etc.
Yeah, yeah. If I had a dime for everyone I know who claimed to be a good "proactive" driver that I regularly observed doing stupid things. LOL, I'd love to be able to hire a 3rd party to clandestinely observe your driving for a few hours.

Maybe you develop habits, are lazy, easily distracted, and daydream. But that's you and you can't speak for others nor quote statistics that may apply to a general populace but not necessarily to an individual.
I thought this conversation was about YOUR ticket? Apparently we can, as obviously you are a flawed driver as you have a ticket.

The cop was pulled over to the side in a stealth car. Do I need to take notice of every single parked car that's in the vicinity? No.
Yes, you do! As a "good driver who is proactive instead of reactive" should you not be observing parked cars, pedestrians, bicyclers and anything else that's a potential problem?

I am talking about a moving violation when driving not about the hobby. Stick to the topic at hand but it is hard for you to do that because you were rightfully penalized. It is against the law and you were fined and probably lost demerit points(but knowing you you would probably deny that). Did you offer the officer a massage or to cook dinner for them if they let you go with a warning, lol. Friggin LOSER, time and time again. How much was your fine and how many demerit points did you lose for something that you did and will continually do. Like many have said, you should just keep your thoughts to yourself. You are embarrassing yourself with your, umm, knowledge, comments and opinions, lol.

Quoting an insurance company who's existence is predicated on charging people premiums in order to make money is not the best way to prove your case. Why not quote drug dealers when trying to discuss drug policies and law enforcement? I known actuaries, what they do, and the complexity of their calculations. But sorry if I don't trust the overall conclusion based on the source and who they work for.

Honestly, I would happily be your guinea pig for a few hours. This is what the individual will conclude. I don't follow all the rules - I go over the speed limit, just like I'm sure many people do. I have other driving flaws too I'm sure. However, they are all minor and the overall assessment would be a very good driver who is aware of the surrounding vehicles/pedestrians/cyclists and proactively avoids situations.

Yes, you are supposed to observe anything that is around you but there is a point where you can't pay attention to every single thing, especially if it's nowhere near you. I'm not going to pay much attention to parked cars on the other side of the road that aren't moving and I'm not going to be driving by. You have to watch a parked car if you are passing it.

Bottom line, it's like a speeding ticket. Police are trying to control a behavior that may lead to an accident. But just because one speeds, doesn't make them a bad driver, especially if they are blocking the flow of traffic.

Here's the irony - I go around with friends/family members who are cautious drivers but in actuality appear afraid. It's very annoying and I let them know it and they occasionally get angry as a result. However, if they are late for a train or an appointment, guess who suddenly "HAS" to drive? I tell them no, they can drive, and they turn around and beg me to get them where they need to go because they know I'll be aggressive enough to get there as quick as possible but will still do so safely.

Let's just agree to disagree. You are going to provide a bunch of reasons that for you makes one a bad driver. I'll argue a bunch of reasons that makes one a good driver. There's no right answer. And face it, a driver who follows every single letter of the law when driving is not necessarily a good driver, and one who doesn't follow every single rule is not necessarily a bad driver.

Mythbusters did quite a good episode on this. Serpentine lines move about 10% slower, but scored a higher satisfaction rating because they were perceived as more fair. Episode was called: Clean Up on Aisle 5. I tried to find the video but no luck.
http://www.thetvaddict.com/2016/02/07/mythbusters-recap-volunteer-special/

Another advantage of the serpentine line system is that the store can add (or subtract) cashiers seamlessly. In a queue system, people will rush to the new line often ahead of people who have been waiting longer.
Mathematically, the average wait time is the same whether there is a single queue and N servers, and N queues with N servers, assuming people hop over if one of the N queues goes empty. Mythbusters might just have gotten unlucky when they ran their experiment, or need to run it 100 times to see the averages are the same.

What is different is the variability of the wait times is lower in the single queue system. The single line moves relatively steadily; you don't get the concept of a lucky and unlucky line.

And of course, the satisfaction is higher as you mention. People can see they get served in the order they arrive, rather than get stuck in an unlucky line.

Drivers who need to to take a right turn, but then take over the left lane (as well as the right lane), and then take eons of time to take their right turn so as to block both lanes at the same time

Shit where do I begin.

Loud talkers in public places
Drama queens.
People who don't pay attention
Slow walkers who hog the sidewalk
Cyclists who don't obey road signs
People who constantly use the word "like" in a sentence
Blocked lanes under construction for no reason other than to piss drivers off

My local supermarket has one line serving the bank of six self-checkouts. Walmarts also have the same arrangement.

I travel quite a bit and have never seen a Walmart with that setup, in which city is this?
(Without actually checking their homepage I must have visited at least 50 of them)

Mississauga has one or two that have this.

So, nearly got in an accident today. Driving in the right lane. Lady overshoots making a turn out of a plaza. I saw her coming out and sped up so by the time she jutted out, I was past. She made the turn and the guy behind had to brake and change his lane.

People who misquote me to prove a point. I love the attempts.

The last two I can think of were Springfield, OH and Allison Park, PA.
