You don't recall when they didn't sign him to the extension a few years back and he got pissed off?You know that about Bautista? I've never heard one word that he doesn't want to stay in Toronto.
Bautista will only stay in Toronto if the money isn't better elsewhere. His biggest problem is his own declining performance. If he was still where he was 2 years ago he'd be long gone making more money elsewhere. But he's tanked and no one wants to pay what he now wants. He was hoping to have a turnaround year and then hit the market again; that hasn't happened and this may be the Bautista of the future. In which case there's a good chance he'll be back in Toronto, for the right price (from the BJ's perspective--they may want to shed his salary regardless and a rebuilding year gives them the excuse they need).
On the bright side, Shapiro has a track record of re-building so this is what he's (supposedly) good at. We'll see.
