So I just witnessed a car hitting a cyclist while I was walking down Avenue Road to Davernport. The young woman cyclist was on the right hand going south. The light was green and cars are driving through. She's making her way between traffic to the far left lane on 3 lanes while signaling cars with her hand but little does she know you can do that in moving traffic and I can't believe the cars were patient with her. So she makes her way to the left lane to make a left corner on to Davernport but she's so concentrate on the cars not running into that the left green light changed already that she doesn't have the "right of way". So the BWM going north runs into her with loud crash and knocks her down. She's extremely lucky the impact wasn't full force, she wasn't even wearing a helmet. Her bike was slightly underneath the bumper when the 2 people pulled it out. The look on the young cyclist face was like "Oh God, I almost die". While the woman BMW driver look "I almost killed someone".
I usually do those left turns in two steps. Turning left in live vehicle traffic is much too risky for me. Yeah, call me a live chicken.
What is she doing without a helmet?
Can cyclists ride like cars on roads? Do they not have to dismount and cross intersections?
I'm aware of the hand signals, but car drivers and motorcyclists can use the same hand signals if their turn signal lights don't work.
I saw a bike Nazi t**********se Richmond street between cars to get to his protected bike lane. Can he do that, or should he cross the street at intersections?
I don't wear a helmet. Only wimps or legally obligated people wear helmets. My turban is my helmet.
I never wore a helmet until someone close to me had what would be a very minor incident and yet she suffered a major brain injury. I went out and bought a helmet...
Yes, you are being prudent. I recommend every cyclist wear a helmet.
Apparently, the life of a helmet is 5 years because the foam hardens over time and its ability to absorb shock is reduced.
Toronto Police say the boy was riding his bicycle with an adult westbound on a bike trail just west of Jameson Ave. on the south side of Lake Shore - so not Queens Quay.
Once you replace the saddle and post, get a quick release version and always take the saddle and post with you when you lock up the bike, also, if you replace the post with a shiny black dildo I'll bet no-one touches your bike again...

I have a simple solution to prevent having your wheels, seat/post and steering head stolen. When I bought my $1000 mountain bike 7 years ago, the sales guy suggested I spend a few extra dollars and install Pinhead Locks. It comes with a unique key which makes theft next to impossible. A set of 4 will run you about $100. It's cheap insurance.
Now I only need to carry one lock with me and don't have to lug my seat/post around every time I park. I've parked my bike at night in lots of areas downtown and never had anything stolen.
If you value your bike, they're a no-brainer. Worry free parking.
