Has anyone ever read the official 'rules' that gangs have for gaining acceptance into their membership?

Some gangs have a written rule book and others just pass it along by word of mouth.

I read a court transcript from a HA trial that took place about 13-15 years ago. It was an actual print out of a trial that had been given to a gang member, who passed it around to those of us who were interested in reading it.

Add gambling, loansharking, protection rackets, cyber-crime, credit card fraud, insurance fraud, other fraud schemes that are so imaginative as to astound you, hijacking trucks, selling stolen merchandise, car heft and export, smuggling and selling cigarettes and you cover about 10% of what organized criminal gangs are involved with.

My neighbour always says that there are so many (apparently completely disproportionate to the population) high ranking Italians in the City of Toronto (municipal government) in key roles/portfolios that there is bound to be mob involvement.

Ironically, when I did a Google search I see that the City has won a diversity award as an employer for a 2nd year running.

Counterfeit cheque fraud (we've been hit in Vaughan by this - they're probably instigating it within the post office too).

In City of Toronto? Naw. In Vaughan, there may be an unscrupulous Councillor or two with possible connections to big business, but not to organized crime. Corruption doesn't have to involve typical organized crime families, etc.

Generally-speaking, I think they are precise because they are done by professionals that are hired guns. Not to say that they don't make mistakes or that things go awry. But they don't spray bullets into a crowd of innocents because that will only attract more heat on them or their paymasters. Capisce?

On the surface there is little info to go by, it looks like the owner or manager was with an employee at the illegal gaming establishment and took the hit from a rival faction that wants to shut down operations of the other faction by instilling fear with a mob hit.

Police have released surveillance images of the suspect and said he is described as black, 6-feet tall, with a muscular build. He was last seen wearing a grey Air Jordan jacket, a Toronto Blue Jays hat and blue jeans..

The hit man sounds like an amateur that does not know anything except that he was paid to do a job. To the faction that ordered the hit the guy was a throw away.

One rumour is that the mob has been trying to buy up cafes and clubs that have illegal gambling operations in the back room.

Moka Cafe was known be have a gambling operation on the go.

Maybe the Moka Cafe didn't want to sell or be "protected" by the mob and reufsed an offer they can't refuse?

Maybe it be a good reminder to send some black guy in to shake things up a bit to show why they needed protection or why they should sell?

Maybe the monkey they hired to scare them wasn't elegant and got carried away?

I doubt that the mob would hire such a careless monkey that is so well known to police like this guy to carry out a real "hit".

Maria Voci was an innocent. She was recently separated before her death I believe (or was planning on separate from her husband). I think that hit was to force the competition to shut down or pay protection money.

I heard through the grapevine

The guy who was shot outside a club on Regina Road in Woodbridge last week was involved in a business deal that he perhaps exploited too much or got too greedy in (this is unconfirmed). He was the descendant of the original owner of an Italian pop bottling business.

The only thing residents of vaughan/ Woodbridge can do is be careful. However some of the comments on here are truly disgusting. If it was a mob hit they would have done it quietly and not have had made the mistake of shooting a different person. As for the black comment, everyone really needs to stop with that. Anybody can get a gun and it doesn't matter on race. If you know the right people in "the streets " you can get a gun for the right price. It is unfortunate that these incidents are happening in such a short time span and in the same vicinity but things happen.. I mean just last year TORONTO was the murder capital.. now it's vaughan. And next year it will be something different. There is no need to start trying to figure out murders when it has absolutely NOTHING to do with you. You should only get involved in other people's business when it is people u know or if it happened right next door to u and le are asking for public's help. Otherwise imho people need to just go about their day. Things happen , people die ( sometimes to unfortunate accidents like these ) and that's just life. There is nothing we can do about it

It's okay to discuss and opine on a discussion board, especially the lounge. Some of us are in the "community" and have heard things but I've already said that I'm not directly involved. Two of the murders, one recently in Toronto (just north of where I live), and one in Vaughan (Regina Road), are probably mob hits for a number of reasons.

As for corruption, I'm not entirely sure. My property taxes have gone down, City Council decided not to soak Vaughan residents like Mississauga has.

Presently former Chretien cabinet minister Maurizio Bevilaqua looks untouchable as Mayor. He won his gambit against Julian Fantino in the last Federal Election, although only by 700 votes.

She could be the GF of the guy and still be innocent. All she knows is the guy has power, money and may be connected.
